Settle in for sea views from several corners of the site at Tyddyn Goronwy Camping Park in Gwynedd, in the seaside village of Tal-y-Bont and a couple of miles from the beaut beach at Barmouth. Pods and pitches here are flanked by sea and mountain views, and are within easy walking distance of the village, which has a takeaway and a riverside pub. Even closer is Talybont station, a couple of minutes' walk away and handy for outings to Barmouth beach or north to the peaks of Snowdonia. Showers, toilets and a washing-up area are available on site. The pitch price at Tyddyn Goronwy also includes a free leisure pass to its sister park Sunnysands Caravan Park, a short drive away, to use its heated indoor pool, café, fish and chip shop and other facilities – and you might want to stick around for the spectacular beachfront sunsets too.

What customers say

This campsite is perfectly located, a short stroll to the beach and train. You'll enjoy amazing sea and mountain views, and the staff are consistently lauded for being friendly and helpful. While the site and facilities are generally clean and tidy, some guests feel they're a bit dated. Its close proximity to amenities and the option to use facilities at sister sites are definite pluses. Just be aware of occasional noise from other campers and busy times.

Liked Great setting, looking out to sea.

Disliked Facilities could do with updating. Shower cubicles small.
Dish washing facilities - thought this could have been better positioned. Washing dishes just outside of gents toilets!!

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked We organised. Pitches are numbered and you get allocation. Great views from the campsite and close to the beach. Also flat and soft ground for pitching.

Disliked I stayed in far end of the campsite and facilities were on the opposite side of the campsite and it took around 5min walking.

Powered grass tent campsite

Liked Site and facilities were clean and well maintained. Good space in the showers. Plenty of bins and water points. Staff were friendly and present.

Disliked Lack of space for check-in can make it difficult to leave due to entrance and exit being the same and the wait to check-in can be long.

Other campers were not respectful. Children were left to run around the campsite, swearing and being disruptive late at night into the early hours and then screaming/shouting early in the morning. A lot of parents/families drinking excessively leading to a lot of loud noise and rowdy behaviour. The family behind us were screaming and shouting at night and arguing, it was inconsiderate and the poor young boy was upset. This carried on through the night. Pitches are quite close together and with some campers smoking the smell was really potent and not enjoyable. There were also alcohol bottles left in the toilets or around the toilet block.

Saw a dog off lead that wee’d up someone’s tent and the owners were nowhere to be seen.

Overall, it is a lovely site let down by some people who book and attend. Maybe consider stricter rules and banning families who have been disruptive or increasing the price to deter people who are just looking for a cheap piss up where there kids can just run around.

Local attractions

To Barmouth first, of course: its position on the north Wales coast surrounded by Snowdonia National Park makes it a popular and pretty place to visit – and the huge beach is pretty special to see as well. Away from the coast (eventually), a wide range of activities is available around Tyddyn Goronwy Camping Park, from cycling to hiking to pony trekking – or strap on lots of energy and tackle the Snowdon and Cadair Idris mountain ranges a short distance away. A chuffing good way to see the spectacular scenery of north Wales is on one of its small steam trains: the nearest to Tyddyn Goronwy are the Fairbourne Steam Railway just outside Barmouth and the Ffestiniog Railway about 10 miles away.
