What customers say
This large, natural campground offers a "back to basics" experience with lakeside or woodland sites. Guests rave about the friendly owners, beautiful scenery, and kids' freedom. Fishing, lake swimming, and quad biking are big hits. Facilities are basic but clean. Some mention limited showers at peak times and a few suggest tidying up certain areas.

Wouldn’t return ever!
Lakeside primitive grass tent campsite (large)
Liked Pitch position and view
Disliked very poor! facilities virtually non existent! god knows how many people sharing one toilet which was located in a shed, not very nice at all.
Such a shame as it had the potential to be a really stunning site. host was friendly & welcoming on arrival & during stay.

From the manager: 2 out of 10 is an insult, and is polar opposite to most of our wonderful reviews. We are a nearly wild/basic campsite, charging on average £10 per adult for basically 24 hours pleasure, offering a swimming lake free of charge, beautiful views, woodland areas to walk around, huge meadow to play games, playground, onsite shop with ice creams for a quid, and mostly wonderful, respectful campers to interact with if you wish.
We are set over 38 acres, and because we are reasonably cheap and have such a large site (please note, we never FILL the site, we close bookings after a certain amount to ensure everyone isn’t on top of each other, the facilities don’t get completely hammered and everyone enjoys the site regardless of when you come - so our goal isn’t to make as much money as possible) we have many basic, functional but clean toilets dotted around the site so you don’t have to walk too far (8 actual proper flushable toilets in total).
Given you were here 3 days, I would have hoped you’d have found the “nicer” toilets located at reception (remember we put basic optional functional clean toilets around the site for campers convenience), and had you approached us during your stay, stating how unhappy you were we would have more than happily refunded your money and you could go somewhere else.
We understand that our site isn’t for everyone, and we accept that, and if you come here, decide it’s not for you, we will happily refund you, as we don’t want you to be unhappy, and we’d rather not have unhappy people here. But you raised no complaints throughout your 3 nights and 2 out of 10 is insulting.
Genuinely sorry you didn’t enjoy your stay (as owners we GENUINELY want people to enjoy themselves and enjoy the site as much as we and many others do, and will do all that we can to ensure that happens) But I also can’t do a lot after you’ve left, without saying anything, and then leaving a 2 star review. Sorry.
The staff and all the people…
Meadow primitive grass tent campsite
Liked The staff and all the people there were really lovely and really welcoming. Had the best time there and enjoyed the lakes. Really close to a local town and the facilities there were great. Would definitely recommended to others!

Swimming in the lake…

Disliked Shower only the 1 toilets with no paper

From the manager: Value for money: 2 out of 10. You paid £20 in total for 2 adults - of which we get £17.50. I question how much cheaper we could be.
Then off the £17.50 I should provide toilet roll (the booking confirmation email outlines your need to bring your own toilet roll - but still, had you asked, I’d have given you one FOC)
Yes, we normally have 2 showers but one is currently broken, so apologies for that, but once again, £17.50 and access to a free shower (presumably for 2 people)
1 star for facilities. Once again for £17.50 how many campsites have access to a free wild swimming lake (you even mentioned you enjoyed this yet still I got 1 star).
Cleanliness 1 star: we don’t dispute some of our facilities are basic and functional, but we always ensure they are clean, so 1 star seems unfair.
2 out of 10 is an insult, and polar opposite to the majority of our wonderful reviews.

Lakeside primitive grass tent campsite (medium)
Liked We had a wonderful one-night stay at this campsite—gorgeous nature by a beautiful lake, perfect for a walk. The toilets were super clean, and the tap water was drinkable, which was a big bonus. Chris, who runs the place, was so welcoming and helpful—an extra star for him! Highly recommend it.

Primitive forest floor tent campsite (medium)
Liked Loved the whole experience! Felt like wild camping but with the added extras of a toilet block a very short walk from the pitch. Beautiful site with little walks and very private in the areas of the forest.
Disliked One shower block was not working.
