Quiet, peaceful and dark site with widely spaced pitches
Freedom primitive grass and earth campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked Huge site with pitches widely spaced, perfect for privacy, quiet and peaceful nights and restful camping. No unnecessary lighting, so it was properly dark at night. Watching the birds and the hares around the campsite and the surrounding fields was delightful. Lovely swimming holes, easy to access and beautifully shaded, perfect in the hot weather. Shower cubicles are basic but showers are powerful with plenty of hot water.
Disliked It's a bit of a trek from some pitches to the loos/showers/washing up sinks and even longer to the swimming holes - a mown path across the field and/or a stile over the fence would help if that were possible. Or bring bikes!

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review. The field in the middle of the freedom pitches is actually a crop - I have asked the farmer if I could mow a few paths across the middle - you can imagine his reply! The Stepping Stones were reinstated last year having suffered years of flood damage but were promptly removed by the landowner on the other side of the river - the reason for the map is that they are actually called The Stepping Stones not because there are any but because that is what they are called on the OS map - unhelpfully I agree. A shallow wade for an adventurous camper across to the other side is what we usually suggest - sorry we didn't see you to explain. Bikes is a good idea - will suggest that in our commentary on Pitchup. Come again soon.
Wonderful as always. Thanks for allowing us the extra night.

Beautiful quiet setting for a relaxed camping trip.
Freedom primitive grass and earth campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked Beautiful setting, spacious pitches with lots of room between them giving a very secluded and private feel. Great sauna and farm shop! Also had a lovely dip in the river at the campsite, and a paddle board in the nearby Thames-Thame confluence.
Disliked Bit of a long walk to the loos/water but not a big issue really.

Peaceful escape to the countryside
Freedom primitive grass and earth campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked Fi was really friendly and helpful, welcomed me into site gave me a tour of the map where everything was located around the site, even gave me a couple of options of where to pitch depending on what I wanted from my stay, really welcoming just what I needed. The site was really quiet just what I wanted some peace and quiet; the hammock area by the river was needed, had a refreshing swim in the river and read my book swinging in the hammock ! Would love to come again facilities all clean and tidy too so bonus

Freedom primitive grass and earth campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked The pitches are huge and separated by large distance so the total privacy was great.
Swimming in the river (and having toes nibbled by minnows :) ) was very refreshing on a very hot day.
Fi was really helpful and friendly, in person and on the phone.
The facilities were all good (a bit of walk to them but then everything is spaced out giving privacy so not a problem)

Spacious, peaceful campsite in a lovely rural setting.
Eco primitive grass and earth campervan or tent campsite (Private restroom amenities)
Liked Spacious pitches, peaceful location. Close to the river so our dog could cool off. Private compost loo. Farm shop had fresh local produce, good priced logs & an honesty system. We had a lovely welcome from Fi & the dogs.
Disliked Notice in private loo that we had to clean out our own loo or lose a deposit. There was no mention of this anywhere in the booking or terms.

From the manager: Thank you for your review.
Unfortunately because you come through Pitchup there is nowhere on their site that allows us to explain this and no deposit can be taken to ensure that it is left clean and as you found it. However, we shall endeavour to work with Pitchup on this issue; in the meantime thank you very much for leaving your loo as you found it - we are very appreciative. Wishing you a happy rest of your summer.
