D'Oyleys Farm: Soak up the evening sun

General

  • Secluded riverside site 20 minutes' drive from Oxford
  • Wild camping, wild swimming and kayaking
  • Brazier, logs and welcome pack included: acclaimed farm produce to buy

Wild swimming in Oxfordshire… what a clever notion. D'Oyleys Farm is an excellent option if you’re visiting Oxford and want a bit of adventure along the way: this laidback place has a riverside setting, a wild camping vibe and the means for outdoor cooking and picnics at its lush little island.

This is Boys’ – and Girls’ – Own Adventure stuff: the farm is in a secluded setting by the Thames, with pitch numbers carefully managed so that guests have loads of room and plenty of peace. Plunge into the river for a wild swimming session at the designated area with shallow and deep ends as well as steps; wander by the water with picnic and book, set off kayaking… or stay on site to indulge your wild side by building dens or shinnying up trees.

A highlight of the site is the little island, where the D'Oyleys Farm team has set up the ‘BBQ shack' with cooking facilities, woodburning stove, deck space and a campfire area, where you can sizzle up supper on your own woodfired cooking stove (brazier and hurricane lantern hire plus a bag of logs are all included in the pitch price).

And another, also excellent, highlight? D'Oyleys is home to an acclaimed farm shop and prepares breakfast packs (bacon, sausages and eggs) and barbecue packs (lamb chops, chicken drumsticks, steaks and burgers) for guests, all home produced and all easily sorted by ordering before you arrive – use the details in your booking confirmation email. A welcome pack is included in the price too, with olive oil, toilet roll and other bits and pieces.

When (if) you crave a bit of city life, Oxford is half an hour away by bus via the service running from the village 15 minutes’ stroll away, or about 20 minutes by car. The farm is four miles from Junction 7 of the M40, so it’s easy to get out and about from here by car too.

The local pub (dog- and welly-friendly) is 15 minutes' walk away.

Please note

Facilities/activities including Kayak Hire are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

Reception is unmanned after 6 p.m.. Please inform the park while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time so that the team can provide information about your unit/site.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

everything!! Its total back to basics but definitely felt very comfortable and peaceful here. Met by Fi who was very friendly and came to check on us during our 2 night stay. Given a welcome pack, wood, matches, binbags, firelighters, other bits, we had a vast field all to ourselves, own compsost toilet which was an experience but fun!! An electric shower can be used which was lovely, the boys had there own boat and enjoyed the time on the river leaving me to chill with my book with the cows in the background 😅 we had a mooch round the rope swing and chilled in the hammock and made use if the firepit both nights.....cant wait to return again!!
Definitely recommend the bbq packs and breakfast pack the bacon is lush...

So much space for each pitch and very few pitches. The location is very quiet and peaceful. The individual compost loos. The river swimming. Excellent BBQ packs (delicious steaks!) Owners are very friendly. Welcome pack included in price contains wood and each pitch has its own fire pit with grill.

What a brilliant place!! We were camped over two pitches with an enormous field to ourselves & direct access to the river. So much space! Sharing a farm with cows, foxes, pheasants & beautiful night sky it truly feels like you’re far away from city life.... yet it’s only a stone’s throw from central Oxford! The group of teens we took loved it, our 7 year old loved it and we grown ups did too! What a find!!!
The holt is a superb idea & a lovely place to shelter or relax. Welcome pack with a map & all the essentials (including wood & a fire pit) made it perfect!

    Disliked:

Not a dislike at all but just to be clear: this is “back to basics” wild camping (ie: one composting toilet) & cold running water. We were absolutely fine with it, but it’s not to everyone’s taste!

From the manager...

It was a pleasure to have you and thank you for comments.
