What a peaceful park this is for Peak District hols – on 11 acres of quiet woodland near the national park and set deep in the Derbyshire countryside with picnic areas peppered all around. And what a pleasing park this is for those who insist on amenities being immaculate and up to date – the toilet and shower block comes with disabled access, baby changing and showers with hot and cold water, and is kept in tiptop condition at all times by the friendly site team. Riddings Wood Holiday Park is a rural park but with easy access to urban centres like Derby and Nottingham as well as to the hikes, bike rides and canters of the Peak District. (If you're a bit bamboozled as to what to do first, have a look at the tourist info point in reception or ask the team for tips.) Campfires are allowed if you need a bit of warming upon return. And finally, what a pint-friendly site Riddings Wood is too – the only thatched-roof pub in Derbyshire, Moulders Arms (aka The Thack), is a short stroll away; and the Seven Stars, a community pub, is just across the road. Lady in reception lovely and helpful.
Gent who came around to make sure we settled in ok was nice and explained the area to us.

Disliked Pitch was awful should of been hard standing but was just mud

On arrival we missed the check in desk as I was reading the confirmation email to get the gate code and to check if we needed to check in as the initial email did not confirm this so we missed the check in shed which is also the same colour as other buildings so we wasn’t sure if that was toilet/washrooms etc so was a genuine miss but the lady who I assume is the owner was very rude to us shouting at us then stormed off about this which does not give a nice first impression as we had only just arrived. I appreciate that she apologised but this is not good customer service when this was a genuine miss. We considered just turning back to go home as this was not nice.
Pitch was awful as we paid for hard standing but this was not it was just mud

Liked Pleasant office staff, good views. A newish toilet block was good- hot showers, clean . Free hairdryer.

Disliked It was quite a long steep walk up to the toilet block but best to ask for a pitch nearer the block if you might struggle

Liked At entry the host were very welcoming, loved the variety of electric hook ups for grass pitches. Plenty of space and well kept.

Disliked When booking is the boy a minimum of two nights. Would love the option for 1 night stay.

To the Peak! The Peak District National Park is but a short drive from Riddings Wood Holiday Park, and has a bit of what you fancy for all ages and inclinations. If you're in the area to hike, there are more Peak District trails than you can shake a (walking) stick at, from the shorter treks of seven or so miles around the upper Dove Valley and Pilsbury Castle, to long-distance paths like the Limestone Way (46 miles), the Derwent Valley Heritage Way (55 miles) or the Peak District parts of the Pennine Way, running for 268 miles from the northern Peak District to just inside the Scottish border. Climbers and cavers also delve into all things Peak: thousands of routes for all abilities are all over the park for climbers, including Burcen Edge for beginners and more hair-raising ascents like Debauchery and Mad Dogs and Englishmen for the severely experienced. If you're of a cavernous disposition, make your way to the village of Castleton and its four show caves, Blue John, the Peak, Treak Cliff and Speedwell Cavern with underground boat trip. Matlock Bath has a cable car to take adventurers to limestone caverns The Heights of Abraham, and Poole's Cavern near Buxton has vast caves to explore before an above-surface walk around Buxton Country Park. Other attractions like Chatsworth House and Gardens and the old Crich Tramway are to hand for the historically-minded, alongside old Peak District villages and market towns for tearooms, restaurants, family pubs and lots of shopping: try Buxton, Ashbourne and Bakewell to start you off. Back at Matlock Bath, let the kids go large at the rides and attractions of theme and play park Gullivers Kingdom for ages two to 13; the 600-acre Matlock Farm Park nearby should keep them busy for a bit too.

Barbecues are permitted but must be raised off the ground and attended by an adult at all times.

Changes to your holiday

Bookings cannot be amended within 14 day(s) of arrival.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Dogs must be kept on leashes and supervised at all times.

Reception

Reception is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. between 01/01 and 31/12.
