The spookiest campsites to visit this Halloween

Are you after a spot of ghost hunting this Halloween, or just fancy a change of scenery and some family fun activities? Either way, you can escape to the country with Pitchup.com this All-Hallows-Eve for a spooky camping or caravanning break.

1. Sandylands Holiday Park, Saltcoats

Sandylands Holiday Park is situated on Scotland’s West Coast in Ayrshire. The area has beautiful scenery and is the perfect base to explore the haunted town of Kirk Alloway. In 1756 Kirk Alloway was used as a place of worship; sadly the church roof fell in and the town was deserted. By the time Robert Burns visited in 1790 the town was well known for tales of witchcraft and wizardry, with strange witch-like creatures haunting passers by. These stories have been immortalised in Burns' classic poem Tam O’ Shanter.

2. Elms Caravan Park, Loughton

Elms Caravan Park is a friendly family park situated close to Epping Forest. This area of the forest is allegedly home of the ghost of Dick Turpin, the famous eighteenth century murderer. A LivingTV documentary crew claims to have been in touch with the spirit of Dick Turpin through a medium. The crew claims the ghost has resided in the forest since he was hanged in 1739 and there have been several spooky reports of strange noises in the forest which corroborate the story.

3. Durdle Door Holiday Park, Lulworth Cove

Durdle Door Holiday Park has fantastic amenities and many exciting nearby activities such as sailing, fishing and horse riding but better still is thought to harbour paranormal activity. Rumour has it that one foggy night Roman legionaries were marching along Bindon Hill when they lost their footing and fell to their deaths on the rocks of Arish Mell. Visit Durdle Door, listen carefully when fog covers Bindon Hill and you might be in for a fright! Legend tells that you will be able to hear the clashing of armour and ghostly footsteps.

4. Broadway House Holiday Park, Somerset

This Halloween Broadway House Holiday Park is hosting a number of exciting and spooky events for the whole family. The bar and restaurant will be open during the evening serving winter warming dishes and the park will host special live acts and a fireworks extravaganza. There will also be a fancy dress competition for both children and adults with the lucky winner going home with a free holiday for next year.

5. Callow Top Holiday Park, Ashbourne

Callow Top is a four-star holiday park with great family friendly facilities including an onsite playground, outdoor swimming pool, cycle hire and evening entertainment. During Halloween there will be a special fancy dress disco on Friday night which will feature a competition to find the best dressed. The following week is not to be missed with a bonfire and fireworks display, along with a family BBQ and disco.

6. Deepdale Camping, Norfolk

Deepdale Camping is a family friendly campsite for tents and small campervans on the north Norfolk coast. It has a four-star rating and features fashionable accommodation options such as tipis and yurts. This Halloween the park is hosting a no-expense-spared traditional spooky party complete with face painting, apple bobbing, pumpkin hunt, best costume competition and Halloween quiz. There will be plenty of prizes, a tasty BBQ and best of all the party is completely free to guests at the campsite.
