Site

  • Small, eco-friendly family-run site in the Dorset National Landscape
  • Lyme Regis and the South West Coast Path both five minutes’ drive
  • Dog-friendly site and barbecues allowed; Charmouth 35 minutes’ walk
Set back from the Jurassic Coast above Lyme Regis, family-run Berries Farm Camping has spacious and scenic grass pitches on five acres of farmland. Well away from the buzz of the coastal towns in the Dorset National Landscape, the site is unpowered and some of the pitches slope slightly, but the stunning views more than compensate. Amenities include flushing toilets and showers with hot water, otherwise you’re pretty much on your own. Barbecues raised off the grass are permitted, but campfires are not (for the safety of the livestock grazing the field outside of camping months). Pets are welcome on site, but please keep a close eye on them as there are sheep in neighbouring fields. There are plenty of local footpaths for keeping them exercised nearby, and you can access the South West Coast Path in about five minutes’ drive. Up your green credentials and walk down to Charmouth in just over half an hour, or Lyme Regis in 40 minutes. You can also take the park-and-ride bus to Lyme; it stops a few minutes’ walk south of the farm. Pretty Bridport and West Bay are both accessible by bus in around 15 minutes.

What customers say

Stunning views, a chilled, no-frills stay with plenty of space. Easy walk or bus to Lyme Regis. Spotless loos and hot showers are a hit. A bit of road noise and some slopes, but managers are on it for upgrades.

Liked location was amazing. On a west facing field overlooking a valley. Beautiful. Close enough to walk into Lyme Regis on a footpath.
Very laid back and simple, as camping should be. Toilet and showers, very good and clean.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Location location - short walk from south west coastal path and down the hill onto the Wessex Ridgeway both leading to Lyme Regis, also on the Jurassic Coaster bus route to Axminister to Weymouth.

Liked What a little gem. Spacious site with stunning views with glorious sunset. Clean hot showers and facilities. Many ways to walk down to Lyme Regis in 30 minutes, bit of a killer walking back up but there is a bus. Used local bus service to travel to Bridport/West Bay and could go further afield. Bus stop located in bay by “driving range” turn off. Communication with owner spot on and site is kept immaculately clean.

Disliked Don’t let this put you off but but you can hear the traffic intermittently but I had the best sleep and I am a light sleeper - must have been all the fresh air.

Local attractions

Stay at Berries Farm and you’ll be well placed to explore the many attractions of the Jurassic Coast; have a forage for fossils on the beach at Lyme Regis (five minutes’ drive/40 minutes’ walk), take the kids to feed mullet at the bijou Marine Museum or play a round of golf on the course overlooking the sea. Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre (five minutes’ drive/35 minutes’ walk) displays fossils and has interactive exhibits explaining the geology of the UNESCO-listed coastline. Chesil Beach (20 minutes’ drive) is an iconic spot for a long shoreline hike along the shingle between West Bay and Portland. It’s also popular for sea fishing or watching the sun slip down over the waves on clear days. If you’re of a foodie bent, search out traditional thatched pubs serving home-made food and local seafood; the site is also less than 10 minutes by car to cookery courses and gardening days at River Cottage HQ. Bridport (15 minutess’ drive) is a west-country culinary hot spot too, with award-winning restaurants and farmers’ markets on Wednesday and Saturday.
