  • Cosy family-run farm site three miles from the edge of the Cotswolds
  • Cotswold Wildlife Park five minutes’ drive; Oxford 40 minutes
  • On-site shop selling fresh produce including local honey; firepits
Cocoon down for a rather cosy stay at West End Farm Camping, three miles from the edge of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Pitches at this small family-run site are in a grassy plot surrounded by fields grazed by animals or left to grow for hay. West End Farm is a five-minute drive from the town of Burford and the Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens, meaning that you’ll also be well connected to several local attractions. This is a rural location, so the views come in strong – the site looks over the Cotswold hills and the Ridgeway National Trail. Handily, walking and cycling paths are not far away either, and there are lots of routes leading into pretty Cotswold villages and towns. From here though, you’ll be particularly primed to see Burford’s medieval bridge, church and antiques shops, or to potter into Shilton village (10 minutes’ walk) to relax by its ford or to visit its friendly pub. The site has a small shop stocked with meats such as pork and beef, plus eggs, bread and locally produced jams and honey, and there are firepits at each roomy pitch where you can cook your dinner. Other facilities on site include hot-water showers.

What customers say

West End Farm: A chilled, no-frills farm stay. Big, spaced-out sites, friendly hosts, and farm animals galore. Simple, clean toilets/showers. Appreciated for its quiet vibes, though some mentioned toilet privacy, plane noise and chilly dishwashing water. Farm shop's a winner.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked It was such a lovely site with friendly hosts and very good neighbours (cows and ducks in the fields behind) the shop onsite provided most things we needed for our stay, a very short walk to the local pub and a nice day out walk to Clarkson’s pub if you feel up to it, as well as only a 30 minute drive to Oxford park and ride. The facilities were different but very pro environment! The large pitches were great and the site was peaceful just a perfect weekend away. There was good cell reception but no wifi which to me was perfect to disconnect from a busy life.

Liked Immersed in Nature, completely away from town life, very peaceful and great to escape, on a farm where kids could see animals up close. Communication very good and helpful with a later arrival.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked I’ve just come back from my second stay at West End Farm Campsite this year, and once again it was absolutely fabulous. This site really does have a special charm about it – it’s simple, peaceful, and has that wonderful “off the grid” feel that makes you slow down and enjoy the countryside properly.

One of my favourite things about this campsite is the animals. You’re not just surrounded by nature, you get to enjoy lovely little interactions with the farm animals too. It makes the stay feel personal and different to your usual campsite experience. Even though we don’t have children, I couldn’t help but notice how family-friendly the setup is – there’s a sweet enclosed picnic area right next to the chickens, complete with different play activities and even a mud kitchen. It would be a dream for little ones to run around safely without parents worrying about passing tractors/ getting into the animal enclosures etc.

The pitches here are another huge positive. They are massive compared to many other sites I’ve visited – really well spaced out, which means you’re not on top of your neighbours and you’re not listening to other people’s conversations late into the evening. That sense of privacy adds so much to the relaxing vibe of the place.

In terms of facilities, you’ll find the basics: toilets, showers, and a sink for kitchen wash-up. They’re simple but exactly what you need if you’re after that back-to-nature camping experience. It’s not a holiday park with endless entertainment or fancy extras, and for me, that’s exactly the point – it gives you space to disconnect and just enjoy being outdoors.

One small but important note: the farm shop closes earlier on Saturdays (around 1–2 pm). If you’re arriving later in the day, be aware that you might not be able to pick up firewood or other supplies straight away. We got really lucky as one of the farm workers kindly fetched some wood for us when we arrived late, and we just paid for it the following day – which speaks volumes about how welcoming and helpful the staff are. That kind of thoughtfulness makes such a difference and is a big part of why I’ll keep returning.

The setting itself is stunning – beautiful countryside, peaceful surroundings, and no light or noise pollution to spoil it. It’s the kind of place where you can genuinely switch off, listen to the sounds of nature, and feel like you’ve escaped the busyness of everyday life.

Overall, West End Farm Campsite is an absolute gem. Whether you’re looking for a quiet couple’s break, a family adventure with space for children to explore, or just a chance to reconnect with nature, it has everything you need. I’ll definitely be booking again for next year – it’s become one of my favourite places to recharge.

Local attractions

Giraffes, lions and primates are just some of the residents at Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens (five minutes’ drive), where a lively programme of events includes feeding sessions, animal encounters and talks. When the kids are all animal-ed out, take them to the park’s Skymaze adventure playground, with treehouses and jungle bridges. On the upper fringes of the North Wessex Downs National Landscape is the Uffington White Horse (40 minutes), an equine figure carved into the side of a chalky hill in the Bronze Age. Other prehistoric remains in the area include the Iron Age Uffingdon Castle hillfort and several Neolithic burial mounds. Besides its famed universities, Oxford (40 minutes) also has the world-class Ashmolean Museum, which displays collections of western and eastern art, plus antiquities and musical instruments. Take a tour of the Bodleian Library, or book yourself on a relaxing cruise on the River Thames.
