Camping San Damiano

It’s worth making time to get away from the beach and on-site activities to take a wander around Bastia (15 minutes’ drive away). The lively city is packed with Baroque churches to admire, narrow alleyways to stroll through and Italian-style squares to sip coffee in; come along at the weekend to pick at local foodie bits from the stalls on Place du Marché. Keep going north past Bastia (driving for the best part of an hour) and you’ll come to Cap Corse, a wilder peninsula with traditional little villages and some stunning views. Hikes and drives are both most rewarding up here – bring a camera along for either. Closer to home you can catch glimpses of the local wildlife (including flamingos) at the Réserve Naturelle de l' Etang de Biguglia just behind the site, or set out to seek underwater creatures on a scuba diving trip from Bastia. Sailing and horse riding providers are about two kilometres from the site.
