Ah, Barmouth. As one William Wordsworth once pointed out, the location of this Gwynedd seaside town is pretty perfect, between Welsh mountains and the sea and with the somewhat spectacular Mawddach estuary at one end of its beach. (And as he was a Famous Poet and all, we reckon he knew of what he penned.) Sunnysands Caravan Park is fronted by miles of sandy beach and the calm waters of Cardigan Bay. In the scenic Eryri National Park (Snowdonia), it's backed by the mountains of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) and Cadir. Plus, the seaside shops, pubs, cafés, fish and chip shops and Barmouth harbour are all within 10 minutes' drive of the site. When you're not out and about hiking or having some lovely beach time, an excellent range of facilities are around the park. These include indoor and outdoor pools (the indoor one is open during high season only), a playground, a bar and a restaurant. Practicalities are also covered by the site launderette, shop (during high season only) and a loo and shower block.

We don't really need to tell you what a glorious area of Wales Cardigan Bay and Snowdonia National Park is, so we'll type swiftly on to what you can do around Sunnysands Caravan Park and among the landscapes, lakes and waterfalls of north Wales instead... Get to Barmouth (10 minutes' drive) first for its spectacular beach, surf waves, the Mawddach estuary, Barmouth harbour and walks and cycle paths from Barmouth to Dolgellau. Fairbourne (35 minutes) is another top spot in the region, with over two miles of beach, many a rockpool and quite a bit of windsurfing. You could also hike up to the Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) summit (eek) or get the mountain railway (better) for views of the highly spectacular sort; explore around the sizable Cregennan Lakes (40 minutes) or the waterfalls of Arthog (half an hour) and Friog (35 minutes), or get subterranean down at King Arthur’s Labyrinth (40 minutes) at the Corris Craft Centre in Machynlleth.
