Take a short detour from your Hebridean Way adventure and stay with us in beautiful, unspoilt Pairc! We're confident that your time with us will be the highlight of your Hebridean aventure.
This beautiful, tiny tents-only site is perched above Loch Odhairn, Gravir, Isle of Lewis has been designed to achieve near to zero negative impacts. It is located in the heart of the Pairc community-owned estate in the unspoilt wildness of South Lochs, a traditional crofting community with a strong Gaelic culture. The facilities are sheltered from the worst of the winds by stone walls and secluded from the rest of the croft, offering stunning 360-degree views of the loch, Pairc hills, the Minch and distant mountains of the mainland beyond.
Drinking water is provided and washing/cooking water is collected via a rainwater harvesting system. There is a sheltered composting toilet and sink area for washing up, supplied with a biodegradable "Dr. Bronner's" soap dispenser whose contents are suitable for body, hair, pots and even teeth-brushing. There are facilities for organic and solid waste disposal and recycling.
The site can be booked for exclusive use by individuals or small groups. It can accommodate approximately four small (2-person backpacking/bikepacking) tents or two larger (3-4 person backpacking/bikepacking) tents.
It is accessible from a slipway on Loch Odhairn (contact us for directions and help with getting your gear up the slope), by local bus (drop-off at the croft gate), on foot and by cycle. There is no motorised access and no parking facilities for motor vehicles - you won't be camped next to strangers and will enjoy complete peace and quiet.
Wildlife regularly seen from the site includes white-tailed and golden eagles, otters, hen harriers, seals, buzzards and myriad other birds and insects. We've even seen dolphins in the loch below the croft.

From Gravir village or Calbost, take the minor road on the north shore of Loch Odhairn and turn downhill to cross the small bridge over the stream past the old schoolhouse and take the single track road on the south side of the loch. Climb for around one mile from the junction to the hamlet of Tom an Fhuadain. Croft 37 is a White House on the left after the tiny bridge over the burn. By bus from Tarbert or Stornoway, take the W10 service to South Lochs Junction, Balallan and change for the W9 South Lochs service. Ask to be dropped at Croft 37 at Tom, pronounced "Towm". Timetables are available at bustimes.org and on the Western Isles Council website. There is one direct daily W9 service departing Stornoway bus station at 18:00.
