Grab your other half or pile the kids in the car – the pods at Hardrigg Hall Glamping make a fabulous base for all sorts of Cumbria holidays, whether it’s a family break or a rural escape for a couple. These smart and cosy pods are part of a historic farm on the edge of the Lake District National Park – so historic, in fact, that it’s even got its own medieval ruins attached to the farmhouse. It's still a working farm these days (so unfortunately dogs are not permitted on site) and it’s a highly peaceful spot for a bit of rural relaxation, with some gorgeous views out over the Cumbria countryside. You may well choose to spend a fair amount of time simply chilling out on site, but if you do feel like heading out, you’ll be pleased to hear that this is a very handy base for all sorts of outings around the northern part of the Lake District, including trips to Ullswater, Skiddaw, Keswick and Penrith. It's also easily accessible from the M6 (about 15 minutes away), making journeys in and out nice and straightforward. Each of the pods sleeps up to two adults and two children (in a double bed and sofa bed), and also has its own ensuite bathroom and fully equipped kitchen. Outside on the deck, a charcoal barbecue, firepit, outdoor seating and picnic table should help you make the most of your time out in the fresh air, taking in the views by day and the starry skies by night.

Positiv There is nothing they hadn’t thought of. The kids had plenty of games to play, there was a lovely selection of biscuits and chocolates. We loved visiting the dairy cows being milked and the owners are very friendly and welcoming. We had a lovely week here with two children, there were sleeping bags and a comfortable pull out bed for them and plenty of pillows. It was a good base for lots of days out too.

Positiv Everything was amazing. We lived the quietness of the accommodation. We were able to relax after long days of hiking. Cooking facilities were spot on. The shower was a welcome facility. Previous glamping did have toilet and shower in the pods. This is now a must. We will definitely go back.

Positiv Amazing place! The pod was fully equipped with everything you need for holiday. Beautiful location-very quiet and peaceful. Enjoyed watching sunset and sunrise in peaceful environment. Amazing hot tub. Even made a friends with lovely farm dog and had a glimpse at farm life in the morning.

Positiv Quiet and secluded but close to amenities in Penrith. Pod was spacious enough to relax when not exploring the area

Positiv When we arrived the pod was very welcoming with little added extras of chocolates for both the adults and children, prosecco and even some milk in the fridge. The pod was very clean and the heating was on ready for our arrival. Colouring and games for the kids as well as outdoor toys to play with. Bed were very comfy and warm. Views were amazing. The owners even allowed us to feed the lambs, watch the cows being milked, sit on a tractor and have a wonderful tour of the farm.

Negativ There was absolutely nothing that we disliked!!! However the phone and Internet signal was not the best. Guest WiFi would make it even better.

Positiv The wood-fired hot tub was our favourite aspect. Seeing hares dotted across the fields in the mornings and evenings was also lovely! No internet, which was a plus for us.

Positiv Cleanliness of the pod, views are beautiful, it was very peaceful, the little personal touches like Prosecco and chocolates, the activities supplied for children in the pod (box of colouring books/pens, cards, bat and ball, football, first aid kit)

You won't have to travel far if you fancy a day out – the historic Hutton-in-the-Forest is only five minutes’ drive away for a tour of the house, a woodland walk and a wander around the walled gardens (followed by a tasty slice of cake in the tearooms). If historic estates or garden tours are your thing, you’ll also want to check out Dalemain Mansion & Historic Gardens (15 minutes’ drive) and Lowther Castle & Gardens (20 minutes).
