Old Man of Coniston Campsite

Positiv Amazing view, you get the full experience right there from the comfort of your pitch! Toilets were in decent nick, slept perfectly soundly all night as it was perfectly quiet and what a great place to wake up. When night fell it was clear skies so with it being a dark skies area then that added another tick in the box. Can’t fault the place and it will be on my ‘to return’ list.

Positiv Excellent no frills campsite if that’s what you want. Extremely tight road and entrance so unsuitable for larger vehicles.

Slight gradient to the field meaning getting a decent pitch can be a bit difficult. Had a wonderful time with a more back to basics camp.

Negativ No drinking water taps so you must bring your own water for cooking/drinking.

Positiv Exactly what was described, a pop-up site with basic facilities. Yes, the field slopes and the single-track road access is steep at the bottom, but a quick look at an OS map confirmed what to expect before I booked. Owner very friendly and accommodating with my booking mistake. Didn't have any problem with noise or the condition of the toilets as some others have reported, but may be because numbers were low when I stayed. Lack of drinking water on site means you need to plan that aspect carefully.

Negativ Everything couldn’t get in the field was supposed to be a small campervan pitch and is only suitable for tents with a walk to get in the field and had to find alternative site to sleep the night

Positiv The views were amazing and great for the trails for old man coniston and so many more. The portaloos were the cleanest I have ever come across. Owners messages on the day of arrival with instructions and bumped into one of the on the way who was lovely and talked us through the field as it had been raining a lot. There is a steep road up there but campers, motorhomes etc still up there just take it steady.

Positiv Views were spectacular. Toilets clean.
Site was quiet after hours. We only stopped the one night.

Negativ There was no water available for cleaning up as stated in the description.
After a day's walking the Cumbria Way the climb up to the site is very steep. We were forewarned by other reviews though.

Vom Platzbetreiber: Thank you for your feedback - there is a tap on the field with a gravel pad underneath for cleaning up, it is to the left hand side of the top gate towards the top corner, this is however not drinking water which is clearly stated in the site description. Sorry that you didn’t find it or get in touch to find out where it was. I hope you enjoyed your stay other than that.

Positiv Perfect exactly like the advert. Right back to basics camping, and views that my pictures didn’t do justice. I will definitely stay again. Note needs to really be a confidant driver due to steep hill on way there

Sun inn pub at the bottom of the hill was very good, food and drinks excellent

Lady came round and made sure we was ok

Porta loos clean

Negativ Very steep hill and tight access, make sure your clutch is good
Entrance to site muddy and boggy due the the rain which made getting on site very difficult ( limestone path would help at the entrance and up at the top of the hill)

Positiv 1 mile out of Coniston but half way up a mountain ! Beautiful scenery, clean portaloos, skip for rubbish.
Only £12 pppn, wish I had found it earlier in the camping season !
No water which was clearly stated , very clear check in instructions sent via text
