Positiv We liked everything about this site. Provision of a communal kitchen with sink, microwave, fridge and freezer was very handy. Toilets and showers were kept clean and there was a room full of toys if you'd brought children. An added bonus was table tennis and badminton on the centre lawn which we made use of. Ehu for our tent was very useful and a water standpipe shared with our neighbours just at the back of the pitch so no lugging water across the field. Marianne was very welcoming, friendly and helpful throughout our stay too. Loved the fact that it felt safe and rural yet just a short walk into Pickering centre.

Negativ Nothing to dislike about the site. But some very loud music coming from one family one of the nights. Not past the "curfew " of 11pm but still very antisocially loud

Positiv We loved the common area, the fridge/freezer microwave and kettle. We also loved how friendly the camp site was. We quickly made friends for our first time camping we met people with loads of hint and tips to make our trip that bit easier next time. We would return with the kids, as the camp was small but all we needed was there on site.

Positiv Small enclosed camp made us feel safe and gave our kids more freedom.
Great location.
Although it wasn’t used, having a communal fire pit is a nice touch.
Very good size pitch and able to park my car next to the pitch.
Toilets and showers kept as clean as possible.
Home from home shower.
Very friendly host with ability to buy wood and charcoal on site at a reasonable price

Positiv Everything! We loved this campsite so much we tried to extend our stay. Compact and friendly with great facilities for all. Excellent communication from Andy by email, on arrival and via text. The kids play area with a big hit with our 6 year old daughter. Conveniently located for the NYMR for a train trip to Whitby and Flamingo Land. Lovely short walk to the centre of Pickering! Would 💯 recommend.

Positiv Flat pitches. Good drainage. Amenities very clean.

Negativ Very noisy. Not maintained to a good standard. No wash basin in jumbo pitch toilet. Only 1 washing up sink.

Vom Platzbetreiber: Sorry that you did not have a good experience at Swallowtails. Most of our guests comment on how peaceful the campsite is in their reviews. However, as we have a play area and it was the school holidays when you stayed, it is to be expected that you will hear children playing. I seem to remember that we let you move to a jumbo at a significantly discounted pitch fee in order for you to move further away from the play area, but, after being moved, you still found it necessary to swear at other campers who were happily playing with a group of under 5 year olds which was not acceptable behaviour at Swallowtails.
As we are a small campsite, we never have anyone queuing for the washing up area to our knowledge, either. It feels as though you are picking holes in the campsite because you were told that your attitude to other campers was not acceptable as a result of other campers complaining about your you and also about your TV being too loud.
It seems that Swallowtails is not the campsite for you and perhaps you would be better off booking at an adults only campsite or booking outside of school holidays.

Positiv It is a very charming camping Site. A good place to start hiking around Pickering (inclusive an interesting geological place below Pickering Castle) or going by historical steam train to Goathland. Very nice pubs and shops in walking/ cycling distance. It was the perfect mix for our Holiday. The staff is very nice and helpful.
