What do you picture when you think of going on holiday? If it’s beaches, stately houses and coastal walks through dinosaur country, then scurry over to Prattshayes Campsite, a green-field site 35 minutes’ drive from Exeter in Devon. Prattshayes Campsite is a top spot for venturing out around country and coast: three-mile-long Exmouth beach is a 30-minute walk from the site and it feeds into the Jurassic Coast at Orcombe Point 15 minutes down the beach. You can see more of the Devon coastline by picking up the 630-mile South West Coast Path at Exmouth beach, or following the Exe Estuary trail from Exmouth to Exeter and over to Dawlish. More of a water-based creature? A watersports centre – where you can try out windsurfing, paddleboarding and kayaking on the river Exe – is very close, or you could stick to Exmouth beach for some swimming and basking. Back on site, reward yourself for all your hard work by firing up the barbecue, piling it high with calories (pick up supplies from Exmouth, less than 10 minutes’ drive away) and tuck in before heading over to the on-site bar (open during high season only) to wash it all down. If you’d prefer to venture off site for your dinner, there are plenty of restaurants worth trying within 10 minutes.

Em va agradar Good upfront information, with pitch number allocated ahead of arrival. We pitched our unit, and then went to reception to check in. Great welcome with some local information. Facilities are relatively new/refurbished. Pitch was nice with privacy hedging on two sides.

Em va agradar Helpful directions made it easy to find the site. super pitch, plenty of room. very quiet. Communication with the site manager throughout our stay was easy. Clean, spacious, hot showers and washing up area.
The site was within easy walking distance of the coastal path, Exmouth and a pub.

Em va agradar Really disappointed as we read reviews before booking. No welcome or face to face communication at all. Most of the showers had been closed although about 3/4 of pitches were in use with no notices to say they couldn’t be opened. The one I could open was dirty. The toilet was also dirty. No staff to complain to. No facilities apart from a tiny tin can poo bin for dogs, and a sign stating they should be exercised off site - so what are we paying for to bring the dog? The pitches themselves were ok but no tidying up of dead plants etc made it look unkempt. The worst thing was the dreadful smell of sewage washing over us when the wind was in a certain direction, which unfortunately for us was most of the time. Could not find the motor home grey water disposal area either. Usually, this advice is given on arrival but we never saw any staff at all. Bar area very tired looking and not open when we stayed.

Em va agradar A lovely campsite in a great location. It’s just a 15/20min walk into beautiful Exmouth. The showers and toilets are newly fitted and are lovely! Out pitch was really big and they are private too. We loved it and will definitely be back!

Em va agradar Everything was easy, booking, gate to get in, pitch number was given ahead of time on a message through pitchup website.
Hot showers and family room enough space to get changed in them with a sink and toilet all in one separate pod.

No em va agradar Only thing my girls found the taps hard to push themselves on the sink and when we did push them the water pressure is very high so it sprays out at you to wash your hands so just be ready for a bit of splashback.

Start your stay at Prattshayes Campsite by sticking close to site, as there’s loads nearby to keep you (and the whole fam) busy. Head into Exmouth for the Exmouth Museum, then venture a little further out for the World of Country Life park, Hawkridge Bird of Prey Centre, Bicton Park Botanical Gardens and the weird and wonderful 16-sided National Trust property A la Ronde, all less than 15 minutes’ drive from the site. A la Ronde whetting your appetite for history and stately piles? Fab Powderham Castle is just over half an hour from Prattshayes Campsite, and is open for tours and lots of special events. If that’s still not quite enough, the museums, underground passages and cathedral of Exeter (worth a visit for shopping and food too) are also a little over half an hour from the site. If you have kids in tow starting to protest about the walk down (centuries-old) memory lane, there’s oodles nearby to get them back on side… Start 20 minutes away with some go-karting to blow off steam, get their adrenaline pumping on the rides at Crealy Adventure Park (25 minutes), then pile them into the car for a jaunt to Paignton Zoo, less than an hour away.
