Off to the north Cornwall coast and fancy being able to walk to the beach easily from where you’re staying? The place is Mount Pleasant Eco Park, and the beach in question is Porthtowan, a gorgeous long sandy stretch with plenty of space to play in on the sand or up in the dunes and a summer lifeguard service for swimmers and surfers. Getting there simply involves a strong along the footpath that runs directly from the site (and also takes you to a couple of pubs and takeaways within a short stroll too). The pretty village of St Agnes and larger town of Redruth are both within a 10-minute drive should you need more eating/drinking/shopping options. It all adds up to a fabulous location – but the team here haven’t relied on that alone to draw people to their park. Much love and care has gone into setting up this site, which is part of a 42-acre community space providing lots of useful things to local residents (think organic garden space, eco-friendly workspaces and an education programme). Events are often hosted here, so you may well be able to catch some live music or a traditional skills workshop if you like. No worries if you’d like to do your own thing though – there’s so much space here that you can always find a peaceful corner well away from the action even when there’s an event in full swing. All facilities have been well thought out at this dog-friendly site – compost toilets and solar showers among them. Barbecues and campfires are permitted if you’d like to try outdoor cooking; if not, the café is open Wednesday to Sunday for tasty plant-based meals using local produce.

Aquest càmping ecològic té vistes impressionants i un ambient relaxat. Molts elogien els seus terrenys, música en directe i menjador. No em va agradar Outdated facilities with insufficient showers. The toilets were cramped and confined spaces.

There was also no mobile phone signal.

Em va agradar The Eco Park is great as an events space. It has a nice bar with live music some nights, and a fantastic wild sauna called Soul Sweats (£13.50 for one hour). That was my favourite thing about the site! We also got takeaway pizza one night from the space near the bar.
It's a 20 minute walk from Porthtowan beach which is great for surfing/bodyboarding - the walk is quite steep but the views are great. Chapel Porth, Trevanaunce Cove and Portreath are also good beaches in the area.
There is a shop on site but it only sells knick knacks - there's a basic food shop in Porthtowan and a fish and chip shop, but you have to order in advance!
The atmosphere is generally chilled - mostly young families. A nice spot if you want a fun weekend with your kids or a short stay.

No em va agradar The marked out camping field is nicely laid out, but very near the bar so probably quite noisy in the evening. We were in the 'wild camping' field and could hear the music until late at night. So maybe not ideal if you're looking for a quiet camping experience.
The wild camping field was very crowded and there weren't enough toilet or washing facilities - only 3 Portaloos, which were sometimes blocked, plus a couple of compost toilets. One sink for washing up and 2 showers (good and hot). If you fancy a long walk, you can go to the flush toilets - but there are only 4 for the whole campsite, 3 small sinks and 2 showers which aren't always hot.
The space is a nice idea, but the owners should think about restricting numbers or providing more facilities. We left a day early.

Em va agradar The location and facilities were great for our family get together. The musical offerings were fun and the range of venues for the children to go wild in made the holiday.

No em va agradar The loos needed emptying more regularly as when we were there, at high season, it was heavily frequented by campers etc.

Em va agradar We had a lovely stay at this campsite and were given a warm welcome from Millie. There are plenty of facilities available, including compost toilets, a portaloo and traditional flushing toilets. The showers were really good too, with three different options. There’s an individual bathroom style shower with a bench and pegs, individual outdoor shower cubicles and a family bathroom with three cubicles inside a hut which can be locked which is handy for families or groups. The washing-up facilities were clean and useful, and there were plenty of taps and bins dotted around the campsite. In the evenings there’s entertainment and a bar, while the café is open during the day and Pizza Hut is available in the evenings. There was no wifi available but we didn't struggle for signal. There are also yoga classes, saunas and cold bath sessions available throughout the day. One of our favourite things was seeing all the wild rabbits hopping around the campsite who seemed confident, clearly used to people being around on site. Overall, a really friendly campsite with great facilities and lots to keep you entertained. We’d definitely come back!

Em va agradar Everything. Organised. Calm. Peaceful. Friendly. Great views. Wonderful beach. Good food. Good drinks. Perfect spot to unwind and enjoy family time. Loved every second!

No em va agradar Only slight downside is the steep walk to the beach but nothing can be done and it’s quite an enjoyable walk albeit tricky with a toddler!

Porthtowan beach will almost certainly be your first stop (possibly even the very minute you’ve dropped your bags off) but then what? Well, perhaps a walk along the South West Coast Path to see some more of that coastal scenery (Chapel Porth and the Wheal Coates mine are not far off), or a direct route to one of the other gorgeous beaches – perhaps Gwithian (15 minutes’ drive) or Perranporth (20 minutes). A stop in the lovely village of St Agnes (10 minutes) is a must, and art lovers will surely also want to head over to St Ives (25 minutes) to explore Tate St Ives and the Barbara Hepworth Museum. The north Cornwall coast has plenty to keep you busy for many a day, but if you fancy a change of scenery it’s not far to get to the south coast for days at Falmouth, Trebah Garden, Glendurgan Garden and Gyllyngvase beach (all about half an hour away).
