If your holiday checklist includes gorgeous Cornish sea views, quick access to golden beaches and so much to do for mini campers that you can fine the kids if anyone dares utter the phrase ‘I’m bored’, seasidey Chy Carne Holiday Park should tick all boxes for your break. This is a relaxed, spacious and spankingly clean site with a strong family focus, dog-friendly and close to acclaimed beaches like Kennack Sands (10 minutes' walk) as well as many of the main attractions and towns of Cornwall. Helston, Falmouth and St Austell are all within easy reach, and spectacular Kynance Cove is five minutes' drive away. The kids can go 'Aaaarrr' and clamber around the play pirate ship, get competitive at the outdoor games or kick a ball around the grassy open space, while the bigger folk can sit back and prepare the barbecue, have a campfire on one of the Chy Carne chimeneas or fire baskets, or sit back with a snack or drink from the licensed shop (opening times and stock limited out of season). There’s a pizza takeaway on site too (open during the May half term and school summer holidays only, until 9pm), so you can polish off a pepperoni if you don't feel like cooking. The first-class facilities here have plenty of hot showers (extra charge applies), toilets, washbasins and washing-up sinks (four, to be exact) so queues are unlikely even in peak season. The main amenity block is open at all times, with two more opening up to cope with extra demand in high season (May half term and school summer holidays). There’s a launderette on site too with two commercial washing machines and two driers. Chy Carne welcomes well-behaved pets.

Em va agradar The sea view was amazing, we had a great, elevated pitch which was very leveled. The toilet blocks were nearby. We had a water tap and electricity at our pitch. The pizza’s were very good and the staff was friendly and helpful.

No em va agradar Some fellow campers didn’t really consider they were sharing the campsite with other people. Which isn’t the campsite’s fault. Also the showers didn’t always work when you put money in.

Em va agradar Great site fabulous location and nicely spaced pitches. Staff super friendly and lovely parks for the kids to play. Plenty of facilities and we felt the 50p for 5 minutes shower worked well plenty of time to wash but also stopped any queues even in peak season.

No em va agradar Only downside for us was the stock in the camp shop we found this to be lacking to be able to really create anything meal wise. It would be fab to have some fresh food choices although we understand this can also be difficult and cause wastage.

Em va agradar Had a great weekend at this campsite, which we choose for its location only minutes away from a lovely safe lifeguarded beach, and nice children’s play areas. We were apprehensive about how the 50p meters would work out but true to other reviews it did keep them free and they were worth the effort of bringing the coins (they take other coins too so don’t worry if you run out of 50p coins). The campsite was quiet by 10pm. We enjoyed a nice pizza and the shop had well stocked beers and wines to wash it down. The bus (stops just outside the gates) goes to most places you would want to go on the lizard which is great for leaving the campervan on site and not having to negotiate the narrow roads. Owners and staff were lovely and friendly. Quite a big long term population but nice mix of those coming and going too. Great hour walk along to Cadgewith cove to the pub then bus it back. We had site 55 which was in a row of elevated flat pitches which made us feel like VIPs!

Em va agradar Site was nice and clean, staff were friendly, toilets and showers kept clean and had music playing and there was never a que. shop well stocked, nice location near some beautiful beaches. We got there early and decided to stay an extra night which they accommodated easily for us. Picnic tables all around the site and water behind every plot. WiFi was spot on never had an issue. Sea views were amazing

No em va agradar Only really 1 dislike and it wasnt the owners fault but there are so many crows nesting in the trees around the pitch we were on wasnt an issue most of the time but there was a couple of mornings from about 5.30am that they decided to have a screaming match with eachother not the best way to be woken up 🤣🤣🤣

The clean, safe and award-winning Kennack Sands (with lifeguards on duty during the summer months) is a 10-minute walk from Chy Carne, and has shops and cafés as well as a dog-friendly stretch on one side: hum the theme from Jaws as you spot a basking shark, or clamber up the coastal path for scenic walks in both directions. A short drive away is Kynance Cove, which is one of the most photographed spots in Cornwall: fool folk that you’re in the Med by snapping a pic here or at postcard-perfect Mullion Cove on a sunny day. The Site of Special Scientific Interest Goonhilly Downs is on the doorstep, best known for its Goonhilly Satellite Earth Station, once the biggest in the world and still with satellite dishes that can be seen for miles: the building of a new space science centre on the site was announced in 2011. Let the kids loose too at the Lizard Point Lighthouse, the last manned lighthouse before automation and now with a heritage centre with exhibits, displays and some of the original engines, or take them to drool over the dromedaries at Cornish Camels. As it’s Cornwall, holidaymakers of an amphibious disposition will be in heaven with top sailing, surfing, scuba diving and other watersports along this stretch of Cornish coast, and several surf and scuba schools in the area for both newbies and water experts. Landlubbers will find plenty to do too: horse riding, bird (and shark) spotting, golf, fishing, clay pigeon shooting and more are all within reach. Day trips include squawking at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary at Gweek or browsing around the towns of Falmouth, St Ives, Penzance and Truro for seafood, shopping, more beautiful beaches and a boat ride to the ancient harbour at Marizion’s St Michael’s Mount. Finally, round off your trip with an afternoon or evening at Penzance’s clifftop open-air Minack Theatre – squint a little bit at the amphitheatre and you could almost imagine you’re in Roman Britain…
