With a spectacular backdrop of lakeland fells such as Blencathra, Skiddaw and Latrigg, The Willows is a gorgeous spot for adults-only caravan or campervan holidays in the Lake District National Park. Set between Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite Lake (about five minutes’ drive to either), this farm site is just outside the village of Braithwaite (10 minutes’ walk), and also five minutes’ drive from the cafés and galleries of Keswick (easily accessed via the A66). On site, you can buy essentials such as free-range eggs, fresh milk, butter and a selection of dairy produce. Most other basics (including food for barbecues) can be found at the local shop (10 minutes’ walk), which is open seven days a week. There’s a pub and a tearoom in Braithwaite too. The rural setting of The Willows combines with modern amenities in the wooden shower block to make your stay both convenient and peaceful. Dogs are more than welcome, and you can stretch your legs (or paws) on walking trails accessed right from the pitches. Please just keep your dogs on leads around the site as there are farm animals in the vicinity.

Em va agradar Great spot for fell walks from Braithwaite - our main reason for booking. Toilets/showers were clean. Wifi was good. Walking distance to pubs/restaurants. Fairly quiet - noise from A66, but expected that due to proximity. There are shepherd huts and safari tents with hot tubs too. Good communication with hosts via messages/email.

Em va agradar Stayed for just one night. Basically it's just a car park on a farm .
It served the purpose as it was just a stop over for us.
Toilet facilities were clean.
There was a field which we could use to let our dog run free when the sheep were not around. No personal contact with the owners of the site but they were there if needed.

Beautiful scenery but super low score for Location it’s altogether contradictory. You booked the pitch knowing it was fully Hard standing and with over 100 photos to look at of the fully
Hard standing site we are before booking ? Our sheep wander wherever they want to depending on their mood they don’t affect anyone using our field, and wouldn’t be allowed in that field if they posed a problem. Its £30 a night and the vast majority of feedback relates to the amazing views and clean facilities so I will continue to focus on that as that’s exactly what the site is, lindsey

Em va agradar Really quiet which was perfect for us. The location to Keswick was great with a bus just across the road every hour. Scenery was spectacular, could look at those mountains for ever. The RAF fly overs added to the experience. The arrival greeting was lovely, Lindsay was very informative. WiFi was superb

No em va agradar The toilet/shower set up. Don’t know what else to say about it.The waste water for motorhomes was not accessible to drain off as the area it was located in was too small to allow the van to fit over. Very inconvenient for us. Had to drive to next campsite to empty. Never ideal.

When visiting Keswick (five minutes’ drive), be sure to stop at the Derwent Pencil Museum, which explores the history of this humble writing tool and other art materials – with a wide range available at the on-site shop. Afterwards, make your way to the shore of Derwentwater for a canoeing or rowing expedition, or a cruise around the lake. Lake District Wildlife Park (10 minutes) is the place for a meditative walk with an alpaca, a falconry experience or a meet-and-greet session with meerkats, lemurs or tapirs. It’s also possible to witness feeding sessions with lynx and red pandas, and to take part in assorted craft workshops. Among the activities at Honister Slate Mine (half an hour), in the foothills of Dale Head, are underground tours of the mine (including one with a spooky haunted theme, and another where you get to scale the walls of the cavern) and thrilling outdoor pursuits such as a via ferrata climbing route and the null Bridge, high above the Borrowdale Valley.
