Are you keen to test your hiking mettle on some challenging trails, but equally keen on relaxing in the evening with a nice pint of ale and some home-cooked food in the comfort of a traditional pub? You can combine your interests at Four Trees, a family- and dog-friendly site a 15-minute drive down the A523 from Macclesfield. This family- and dog-friendly site with grassy pitches sits next door to the Harrington Arms, a traditional community pub with a children’s playground and a beer garden from where you can admire the surrounding countryside and the hilly landscape of Peak District National Park in the distance. Epic treks await in the Peak District (15 minutes’ drive) – you might not complete the long-distance Pennine Way, for example, but surely even walking a handful of miles through moorlands and limestone dales will give you bragging rights with your mates. After a few days’ trekking, you might like to wind down with a spot of angling at Bosley Reservoir (five minutes), where you might catch pike and perch (be sure to contact the local fishing club for permits). While you wait for the big one to bite, keep your eyes peeled for Canada geese, buzzards and other birds. If you’d rather be on the water than on the shore, Rudyard Lake (15 minutes) has a lively sailing club where you can get a permit to launch your canoe or paddleboard (please note, there is no equipment for hire here). The site comes with a toilet block, showers, and a washing-up area with a drying room, plus chemical waste disposal.

Em va agradar Price and communication with site owner

No em va agradar Inadequate lighting on the site and pitches, toilets were average and the sink leaked so water all over the floor.
Pitches on the small.
Next to a very busy road so don’t expect to get much sleep, take earbuds

Em va agradar Nice location with the pub next door which served excellent food at very reasonable prices. Facilities clean considering the awful weather on our arrival. Pitches a little cramped but considering it will be generally a short stay site, they were good. Picnic table at every pitch was a nice touch as well.

Em va agradar I stayed at Four Trees Campsite from Friday 28th until Sunday 30th, and I can honestly say I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

The campsite itself is lovely and peaceful, with the reservoir close by and some absolutely amazing walks right on the doorstep. In fact, this was my second stay here within the space of a month, which says a lot about how much I enjoyed it!

It’s a very quiet and relaxing site, so don’t let the road put you off. The location is also great for exploring the area, with the Harrington Arms nearby. The staff and locals are incredibly welcoming and friendly, which really adds to the experience.

I would definitely recommend Four Trees Campsite as a fantastic base for anyone who enjoys beautiful scenery, peaceful surroundings and excellent walks. I’ll certainly be returning!

Em va agradar Went on a Monday and Tuesday. Very quiet small site.
Owner very helpful.
There is a common area with a comfy sofa and dominoes, wash area with a very hot water heater for doing dishes.
Shower was very hot and clean, water pressure is very good. Toilets clean and tidy. Lights are on a sensor that go off very quick so you'll do a flap with your arms to get them on again.
Pub was closed but we were told we could still use the play area and my daughter loved it.
Local walk around the reservoir was perfect with another park there too.

No em va agradar Buildings look a bit run down from the outside, not very inviting. Nothing a day of maintenance and building wouldn't sort.
Seen a lot of comments about road noise but you can see its on a main road and isnt a huge issue at all.

Em va agradar The pub and staff really nice, good location for our needs.

No em va agradar Road noise was a little noisy and toilet/shower pretty basic but was very clean.
Our electric lead couldn't reach from van to point in pitch 1 but all the others looked fine.

Em va agradar This is a nice little campsite in principle. It overlooks a beautiful valley and has only 10 pitches, which makes for a relaxed and familiar feel. The staff at the Harrington Arms were also very friendly, although there was no food on the day we arrived. The showers and washing-up facilities were better than at many other campsites — there was actually hot water and it was free of charge. They were also kept quite clean.

No em va agradar The facilities are in serious need of updating. Buildings and picnic tables look rickety. The real backside quite literally is the noisy road that runs behind the pitches. Bring earplugs.

National Trust - Biddulph Grange Garden (15 minutes’ drive) was created in the mid-1800s. In addition to peaceful tree-shaded paths, there is a collection of rhododendrons and the colourful Dahlia Walk, plus themed areas like Egypt (with a topiary pyramid) and the China Garden. Alton Towers (35 minutes) has something for everybody, from vertiginous roller coasters and assorted thrill rides to the gentler, family-orientated attractions at CBeebies Land. On hot summer days, you might want to make a beeline for the waterpark, with its high-speed slides and lazy river. Crossed by canals, Stoke-on-Trent (40 minutes) is renowned for its potteries. Check out the collection of locally produced ceramics at the Potteries Museum & Art Gallery, where you can also admire the Staffordshire Hoard, a collection of gold and silver objects dating back to the Anglo-Saxon era. And be sure to have a go at the pottery wheel in one of several cafés and activity centres in town.
