Well, isn’t this a really rather fine rural setting – on the banks of the River Ribble and within easy rambling distance of restorative pints at one of Horton-in-Ribblesdale’s three country pubs: how fab… Cragg Hill Farm is in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and the views from this peaceful place won’t let you forget that for even a sec. Gaze in one direction and you'll hopefully see Pen-y-Ghent towering over the site; turn the other way and you might just catch a glimpse of the Settle-Carlisle Railway trains wending their way through the scenic surrounds. Settle is a 15-minute drive to the south; as well as being the launch point for train rides, it’s also a good place to source supermarket supplies (or have a swim or a game of golf if you’re shunning such mundanities as shopping). For other days out, it’s recommended you look not much further than roaming around the Yorkshire Dales – although you could also consider hitting the coast at Morecambe, an hour’s drive away, if you’re yearning for a bit of sea air. Back at the farm, life is pretty laidback, with no noisome ents to interfere with the peace, just toilets, hot showers and a washing-up area to keep you and your kit clean.

Em va agradar Had a great stay in early September. Site was quiet - a few other tents but enough space for everyone to spread out. It's away from main roads so the passing trains are the only occasional noise.
Facilities are relatively basic but sufficient: the outhouse with hot running water is a little way from the main fields, but is good for doing washing up and has decent showers. There are toilets with cold water in the main fields.
Horton in Ribblesdale is a short walk across the fields - probably about 15 minutes or so.

Campsite was very pretty with stunning views and flat!
Host was friendly

Em va agradar Large campsite with lots of room. Fairly flat ideal for pitching tents. Only a twenty minute walk from Horton in Ribblesdale. Great position for exploring Pen-y-ghent and the surrounding area.

Em va agradar Nice campsite, quiet with good pitches with a decent amount of space around them, This was good for our group to allow us to camp together. Facilities were all clean and perfectly fine with running water and soap. Make sure you have a head torch as the toilets don't have lighting inside. Road running to the campsite was narrow but traffic infrequent.

Em va agradar Loved this campsite - very peaceful and the view was stunning. The only sound was that of trains occasionally passing on the railway line behind the site (approx once every half-hour between 09:00-21:30. They would toot their horns to warn at a crossing, however they always stopped before bedtime so it didn't bother me at night. There was also the nice sound of the nearby sheep.

This campsite has excellent access to public footpaths and nearby Bridleways. It is also accessible by train from the nearest Horton-in-Ribblesdale train station.

Pitches were very flat and the ground was relatively soft for tent pegs.

Generally a great area to get out into the Dales from. I had my car and was able to get to loads of places nearby.

Note - to pay the final balance once you arrive to the campsite, you will either need to do a bank transfer directly to the owner when you are at reception, or bring cash.

No em va agradar The final lane to the campsite is a couple of minutes drive along a narrow lane with few passing places (about 3 when I checked) and walls either side. I didn't come across anyone else when I was driving on it, however I could envision if you met another vehicle you may have to reverse quite a long way! Tourists with SUVs who don't know how to reverse may want to avoid this.

It would also be nice if the toilets were modernised a bit more and had toilet roll and soap replenished more frequently. However for the low cost of this campsite I can't really complain!

Em va agradar Excellent campsite, very well maintained, clean facilities. I appreciated the check in was until 9pm, as I needed more than 3 hours to get there. Very well positioned for the yorkshire's three peaks challenge. I certainly plan to return there.

Em va agradar Great camp site they have some Pods aswell to stay in they looked smart. Nice welcome on arrival when checking in. Toilets, showers,washing up area all Very clean.Great Location for 3 peaks and the rest of area to explore other town and villages .two Pubs and a Local shop not far from site.

This is a mighty fine part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park to be based in, as it’s within easy reach of several fab sights. Malham Cove and Malham Tarn, half an hour away by car, combine to make an excellent day’s walk; the Ingleton Waterfalls Trail (25 minutes’ drive) is another that’s worth walking. If it’s not walking weather, get underground at White Scar Cave (20 minutes) or Ingleborough Cave (35 minutes). Not active enough? Those for whom Pen-y-Ghent is not so much scenery as a challenge can set out from the site for the climb to the 694-metre peak. Follow up by scaling slightly taller Ingleborough (also accessible on foot from the farm) and taller-still Whernside (15 minutes’ drive) to tick Yorkshire’s Three Peaks Challenge off your list. You may like a little sit down after all that (or instead…) and a fine place for that is in a seat on the Settle to Carlisle Railway, which you can board at the nearest station a mile away in Horton-in-Ribblesdale. Even if you’re not up for the ride, you may like to take in the view of the Ribblehead Viaduct (15 minutes), famed for many as the route taken by the Hogwarts Express.
