Bromptons Farm, on the edge of the village of Stanton (a 10-minute walk), is a top spot for a peaceful Suffolk holiday. Staying here puts you within easy driving distance of historic towns like Bury St Edmunds (20 minutes’ drive) and Stowmarket (25 minutes), as well as woodland trails like those found in Thetford Forest (25 minutes). The region’s coast is a little farther, with beaches such as Aldeburgh (pebbly) and Lowestoft (sandy) about one hour’s drive away. The site has a two-acre meadow where you can set up freely – there’s no being slave to marked bays here. There’s heaps of room for the kids to run around, and the family dog will almost certainly wag its tail in excitement at the prospect of sniffing every little corner of this great big field. A toilet/shower block, charging facilities and recycling points sweeten the experience further. Hiking (and wildlife-viewing) highlights in the vicinity include the Knettishall Heath Nature Reserve (15 minutes), with grazing wild ponies; and the Norfolk Wildlife Trust - East Wretham Heath Nature Reserve (25 minutes), where you might spot wading birds around the lakes, plus stoats and roe deer. If you need to stock up on grillables, Stanton has a couple of convenience stores, as well as a fish and chips shop for those who don’t fancy tending to hot coals all evening. You can also check out the restaurant at Wyken Vineyards or hit the pubs in Bardwell (both five minutes). After dinner, stretch out on the grass and take in the spectacle of the night sky – with such low light pollution here, stargazing is on a different level.

Em va agradar Brendan was very friendly and gave us a text before arrival, it was wet so didn’t want to park on the field he said we could park where we liked so we parked next to another van which was fine as we wasn’t getting our tables and chairs out. The hard standing wouldn’t be suitable for two motorhomes in the summer I don’t think. You could park on the field though. Toilets and showers were available they were clean and tidy. It wasn’t very busy as was end of season with rubbish weather not the campsites fault. The cock inn up the road was a short walk and very welcoming.

Em va agradar I was free to choose my plot, although more choices without electric than with. I liked the openness of the site and facilities were good. A very helpful owner/manager was present. Wi-Fi was good.

No em va agradar Washing up area looked a bit messy and could do with a bin to put food scraps that collect in the plug hole.

Em va agradar The owner Brendan was absolutely lovely made sure we felt welcomed and if we needed anything he was happy to help. Facility’s were clean and tidy. Lots of space around and a quick walk to a co op, park and pub.

Tenda piramidal Barn Owl

Em va agradar We stayed for 3 nights in the bell tent at Bromptons Farm.
The tent was in a lovely quiet location, and we had everything we needed inside and out. Everything was very clean, the beds were comfy, and the lamps made for cosy evenings. The stove kept us lovely and warm in the evenings.
Outside we had a BBQ perfect for preparing breakfast. The toilet and shower building was well looked after and comfortable.
A short drive to Bury St Edmunds.
The local pub was a short walk away and everyone was welcoming.
Brendan was a great host, checked on us, topped up the fire wood, and even joined us for a pint in the local and we had a good laugh together.
Would love to return for another visit!

Em va agradar We had a lovely, peaceful stay at Bromptons Farm. The owners were really friendly and welcoming, which always makes such a difference when arriving somewhere new.

The site is very basic and rustic, but that’s part of its charm if you’re looking for somewhere quiet and away from the hustle and bustle. The pitches are lovely and spacious, with plenty of room to set up however you like, and the facilities were clean and well maintained.

There are lots of cats around the farm, and we had noticed there was some animal mess around our pitch, so something to be aware of when visiting with dogs.

Overall, a very quiet and relaxing spot with friendly owners and plenty of space. A good option if you’re looking for a simple, no-frills countryside getaway. 🚐🐾

The ‘Dad’s Army’ displays ought to appeal to nostalgic TV buffs, while green-fingered visitors should check out the Japanese garden and ornamental ponds in the 17-acre gardens. An English Heritage property, the 12th-century Thetford Priory (20 minutes) was closed by order of Henry VIII in 1540. Its ruins now spread over a large area just north of the River Ouse. Thetford also has the Dad’s Army Museum and the Thetford Castle Mound, said to be Britain’s tallest medieval earthwork. Norfolk airfields witnessed plenty of action during World War II. Military museums in the area include the 100th Bomb Group Memorial Museum (25 minutes), housed in a former control tower; and the Red Feather Club 95th Bomb Group Museum (half an hour), which tells the story of a US Air Force team.
