Best Birdwatching Sites

Birdwatching isn't just birdwatching anywhere in the UK. Whether you go to an official RSPB reserve or just want to take your binoculars to a lakeside or forest, you'll be able to see a wealth of British wildlife including butterflies and insects, trees and rare plants, or water mammals and fish.

You can birdwatch anywhere in the UK - and camp anywhere nearby. Start by searching for all holiday parks and campsites within 15 miles of an RSPB Reserve.

If you just want to go out and see what you can spot, the whole of Britain is your oyster. Just pick the habitat you want to go to - cliffs, wetland, woodland or even urban - and start spotting. Or you can go to one of the RSPB's 200 reserves, covering every part of the country, from the Shetlands and Rathlin Island to the cliffs of Dorset

The reserves are all individual, catering for everyone and every aspect of birdwatching, whether you just want to take a walk along the trail or bring a class of children for a school trip. Each reserve is detailed on the RSPB website, giving you information on when is best to visit, what you can expect to see and what events are on at any time. And, as with every activity available to you in the UK, camping is available near every spot - just pick your spot and check out our guide to the area.

The annual British Birdwatching Fair, described as the Birdwatchers' Glastonbury, is the largest international birdwatching event and takes places in August.
