Always on the lookout for a quiet corner of Cornwall in which to lay your head? One that’s close to beaches, theme parks and woodland walks as well? Peaceful Gunwalloe Caravan Park may suit you very well, set as it is on a working arable farm less than 10 minutes’ drive from Gunwalloe Church Cove Beach and forest trails at National Trust-owned Penrose. With easy access to tree-sheltered grass pitches along hardstanding tracks, this is a no-frills site, owned and run by a family for families. Pets are welcome to tag along too, and there’s plenty of dog walking to be had along forested trails and shingle banks around The Loe freshwater lake and Carminowe Creek (10 minutes’ drive). Head to Gunwalloe village for a night out in the well-known Halzephron Inn (five minutes’ drive or half an hour’s walk), or try out waterfront pubs and takeaways around the fishing harbour in Porthleven (15 minutes’ drive). If you’re running short on provisions, historic Helston (10 minutes) has supermarkets for stocking up as well as pasty shops, pizzerias and burger bars if you’d like to give cooking a miss.

喜欢 Easy if you have a dog because it has a dog field and a couple of beaches are only a short drive down the road. Fairly central to South Cornwall. Good shower and toilet block. Friendly owners.

喜欢 It was quiet when I stayed but it was perfect for me. It was clean and tidy. I travelled with a dog and I found, with its exercise area, it was all I needed. The shower block was warm and clean, the showers were good.

喜欢 Bathroom facilities were great. Building was warm and everything looked recently replaced.

不喜欢 Hard standing was barely wide enough so you stepped out onto the grass.
Kitchen area was horrible, rusted and dirty sinks. Everything was in disarray.
View onto a static caravan wasn’t great.
Recently under new ownership so hopefully the points above will be addressed.

不喜欢 Hard standing pitches which we paid for were not fit for purpose so we had to go on grass and it wasn't really fit for putting up an awning as it wasn't flat, dig walking area was just a complete bog

来自经理: I would like to reply and comment on your review- the hardstandings are perfectly fit for purpose it's just you didn't like the way they were laid out and then chose to go on a grass pitch (which is the same price as the hardstandings so no money lost) and the grass pitches i gave you the whole site to choose from and you put your awning up for the week on. As for the dog walking area- we have had the most rain in Jan and Feb ever recorded and so it is a bit wet yes something that will/does dry out when we get some days without rain.

When you fancy a serious yomp along the dramatic coastline, follow the South West Coast Path (10 minutes’ drive) to Kynance Cove (around three hours’ walk) on the Lizard Peninsula. Shorter hops include a shoreline walk to Porthleven (90 minutes), and strolls around the headland at Poldhu Cove (20 minutes). Walk or boat across to the ancient St Michael's Mount (half an hour) to look out for the giant's heart stone. For other family days out, consider a visit to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary (10 minutes) to join sea lion feeding sessions and watch seals and puffins in their watery enclosures, or take intrepid kids to Via Ferrata Cornwall (20 minutes) for climbing, ziplining, watersports and other adventures. History lovers might care to head for the harbourside National Maritime Museum Cornwall (35 minutes) in Falmouth to tour historic steamboats and let the kids loose on interactive, pirate-themed exhibits. When the weather is warm and you’d prefer to be outdoors, have a wander through the subtropical plantings and water features at dog-friendly Trebah Garden (half an hour).
