  • Cornwall caravan site on a working farm 10 minutes’ drive from Helston
  • A 10-minute drive from Gunwalloe Church Cove beach and Dollar Cove
  • Dog-friendly grass pitches; pubs and shops within 10 minutes’ drive
Always on the lookout for a quiet corner of Cornwall in which to lay your head? One that’s close to beaches, theme parks and woodland walks as well? Peaceful Gunwalloe Caravan Park may suit you very well, set as it is on a working arable farm less than 10 minutes’ drive from Gunwalloe Church Cove Beach and forest trails at National Trust-owned Penrose. With easy access to tree-sheltered grass pitches along hardstanding tracks, this is a no-frills site, owned and run by a family for families. Pets are welcome to tag along too, and there’s plenty of dog walking to be had along forested trails and shingle banks around The Loe freshwater lake and Carminowe Creek (10 minutes’ drive). Head to Gunwalloe village for a night out in the well-known Halzephron Inn (five minutes’ drive or half an hour’s walk), or try out waterfront pubs and takeaways around the fishing harbour in Porthleven (15 minutes’ drive). If you’re running short on provisions, historic Helston (10 minutes) has supermarkets for stocking up as well as pasty shops, pizzerias and burger bars if you’d like to give cooking a miss.

Charming, family-run site, level pitches. Spotless amenities, great showers. Handy shop. Peaceful, ideal base for Cornwall. Minor airbase noise and patchy WiFi mentioned. Owners are champs.

Liked We’re on our last night here, we’ve even stayed an extra night, and wish we could stay longer!! Lovely site, the kids have loved it. The family that run the site are so friendly, and welcoming, and go out of their way to make you feel at home!💗
The pitch sizes are generous, plenty of extra room for the kids to play.
Great little shop as well, with lovely home made cakes.
Will definitely be coming back, thanks for looking after us on our first family camping trip. Can’t wait to come back.

Disliked Don’t want to go home.😢 wish we’d have booked for 2 weeks.

Liked Lovely greet and meet on arrival I believe it's a family run site and seems very friendly, I was escorted to my pitch which was a lovely size with a good up to date hook up , the facilities are lovely smelling really nice and clean as well great showers good washing up area .
On site shop which I didn't really need but tea and coffee available.
the site is well maintained and quiet.

Disliked The fridges where not working

Liked Large spacious pitch with electric and water point close by. The small shop had all the basics required with local meat available.
Good location for visiting nearby beaches and the lizard peninsula (by car most places 20 mins).
Bus stops nearby (<30/35 minute walk).
Shower facilities were decent with enough space within the cubicles.

Disliked Right next to an airbase so intermittent helicopters.
WiFi was shocking - constant dropping in and out.
Facilities were not cleaned all week of stay despite plaque stating facilities are regularly cleaned.
Concern would be the facilities to be insufficient size if the campsite is to be full - only 2 sinks, 3 toilets and 3 showers.

From the manager: I would like to put some things straight on this review- the toilets and shower block are cleaned at least once a day, sometimes twice a day and checked more regularly as other reviews for the same time as your visit have mentioned. There are 2 sinks, 3 toilets, 2 urinals and 3 showers in the mens, more in the womens and then a disabled and family bathroom so plenty of facilities for everyone. The wifi can be patch on some of the site- if this was of importance to you we could have moved you to a better pitch.

Local attractions

When you fancy a serious yomp along the dramatic coastline, follow the South West Coast Path (10 minutes’ drive) to Kynance Cove (around three hours’ walk) on the Lizard Peninsula. Shorter hops include a shoreline walk to Porthleven (90 minutes), and strolls around the headland at Poldhu Cove (20 minutes). Walk or boat across to the ancient St Michael's Mount (half an hour) to look out for the giant's heart stone. For other family days out, consider a visit to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary (10 minutes) to join sea lion feeding sessions and watch seals and puffins in their watery enclosures, or take intrepid kids to Via Ferrata Cornwall (20 minutes) for climbing, ziplining, watersports and other adventures. History lovers might care to head for the harbourside National Maritime Museum Cornwall (35 minutes) in Falmouth to tour historic steamboats and let the kids loose on interactive, pirate-themed exhibits. When the weather is warm and you’d prefer to be outdoors, have a wander through the subtropical plantings and water features at dog-friendly Trebah Garden (half an hour).
