For a full-on nature fix, head to the Hampshire countryside and settle down among the trees, ferns and free-roaming ponies at Ocknell Caravan and Camping Site. This peaceful site is in the north of the New Forest National Park and it’s a fabulous spot for unwinding amid gorgeous greenery. The site's simple pitches are entirely surrounded by heath and woodlands, with direct access to walking trails that crisscross the countryside in all directions. You won't be staying on a perfectly maintained lawn (rock pegs are strongly recommended for tents), but this proximity to nature and wildlife will be a big plus for couples, families and friends looking for a back to basics getaway in stunning surroundings. To make sure the impact on nature is minimal, facilities at Ocknell Caravan and Camping Site are limited – toilets are available, but there are no showers. Purpose-built barbecues (but not disposable ones or firepits) are allowed, but you'll need to keep them raised off the forest floor and don't light them anywhere other than on site to protect the forest landscape. The site is a couple of miles' drive from the peaceful village of Fritham, home to an independent pub and plenty of options for walking and cycling. For independent shops and cafés, head into the New Forest’s unofficial ‘capital’ Lyndhurst (20 minutes’ drive), or for a supermarket haul head to Ringwood (15 minutes along the A31).

喜欢 Lovely spot right in the new forest were you can pick your own pitch and enjoy the ponies and donkeys roaming around. The staff on reception were very friendly, we only went for one night to try our new van. Also felt very safe and it was quiet.

不喜欢 Second toilet block would be ideal but they were very clear when we checked in there was only one so don't really have an issue.

喜欢 really great no nonsense campsite. attractive places to pitch a tent, and didn't feel cramped or busy at all. We loved seeing the ponies and donkeys every day

Clean.
Staff very welcoming.
Lots of areas for tents, caravans and motorhomes.

Based on old air craft base. So lots of hard standing areas. But also.liys lf grass for tents or those in Vans preferring a grass pitch

(Cute little pockets for tents for a little hideout too)

We stayed 1 night so no shower block was fine for us. It made it a nice cheep 1 night with a toilet block is all we really needed as we arrived at 5.30pm and left gain by 9am.

Nice evening walk with lovely sunset.

喜欢 This is an excellent location for camping in the new forest. The pitches are great (bring rock pegs and a mallet). Staff are amazing, the shop is also great.

不喜欢 The toilet Block is amazing and clean, but no showers. I Know its listed so we knew in advance but it looks like they could definitely provision for them.

喜欢 Able to choose my own pitch. Whole area well maintained. Toilets and wash up area clean. Recycling available. Reception very helpful. Lovely to be able to pitch under the trees for shade. Able to park car by tent. Coffee and ice creams at reception.

不喜欢 No facilities for freezing ice blocks, this made keeping milk fresh very difficult especially as the nearest shop to buy milk some distance from campsite.
No shower, not unexpected, but with the extreme heat recently it would have been good to cool of and be clean.
