For a full-on nature fix, head to the Hampshire countryside and settle down among the trees, ferns and free-roaming ponies at Ocknell Caravan and Camping Site. This peaceful site is in the north of the New Forest National Park and it’s a fabulous spot for unwinding amid gorgeous greenery. The site's simple pitches are entirely surrounded by heath and woodlands, with direct access to walking trails that crisscross the countryside in all directions. You won't be staying on a perfectly maintained lawn (rock pegs are strongly recommended for tents), but this proximity to nature and wildlife will be a big plus for couples, families and friends looking for a back to basics getaway in stunning surroundings. To make sure the impact on nature is minimal, facilities at Ocknell Caravan and Camping Site are limited – toilets are available, but there are no showers. Purpose-built barbecues (but not disposable ones or firepits) are allowed, but you'll need to keep them raised off the forest floor and don't light them anywhere other than on site to protect the forest landscape. The site is a couple of miles' drive from the peaceful village of Fritham, home to an independent pub and plenty of options for walking and cycling. For independent shops and cafés, head into the New Forest’s unofficial ‘capital’ Lyndhurst (20 minutes’ drive), or for a supermarket haul head to Ringwood (15 minutes along the A31).

喜欢 Lots if room, fairly good pitches, well laid out. Set in a beautiful environment. I stayed in the Glades area which was nice and quiet. The staff were both friendly and helpful, the shop is basic but has enough to get you out of trouble. The toilet block was clean and maintained regularly.

喜欢 Lovely site. Check in process was smooth and we found a lovely pitch. Site was clean and well kept with plenty of bins. Toilets were clean and well kept. Staff were lovely and helpful. We’ll definitely be back.

不喜欢 Not much to dislike really. It’s a basic site with basic but adequate facilities. Nothing bad to say about it

喜欢 - spacious pitches
- was able to pick our own pitch and not allocated to it
- quiet tent area
- very slow paced and relaxing
- the rangers / staff were really helpful and friendly
- location is great and easily accessible to the dual carriageway but equally convenient to drive through New Forest and take in the views
- breathtaking environment and views
- well kept site
- clean toilets
- clean washing area
- nice little shop
- very easy to check in
- horses, donkeys, cows & deer roaming through the site which is lovely!
- peaceful environment with lots of wildlife to explore

不喜欢 Below is a few key areas we disliked, however, this did not effect our stay and is purely for future visitor’s info. We love Ocknell and plan on returning for a 3rd year

- can hear the traffic from carriage way even from the furthest point of the campsite
- 1 toilet block is fairly far away from the Glades which is a dedicated tent spot (where people tend to need to use the toilet block even more so)
- the site is based on an old RAF base and is full of concrete under the grass
- because of the concrete, you need special concrete tent pegs which were £1 per a peg which ended up costing us £16 in total!! Which was very over priced!
- WiFi doesn’t work

喜欢 Spacious pitches with plenty of privacy, great location within the New Forest with plenty of walking trails to go and explore and a lovely welcome from the reception team. Also pleased to see recycling options on a campsite as usual its just a general waste bin!

喜欢 The Glades is an amazing area for tents or small campers - felt informal and relaxed, right in the woodland. Magical.
Loves the way you could wander into the new forest (woods and heath) in all directions with no fences.

不喜欢 Slight hum of traffic from road, but easy to ignore!
No showers, but that’s not a problem for one or two nights (unless you have own facilities for longer stay)

喜欢 A lovely site plenty of different places to pitch and the staff were very welcoming and helpful.

不喜欢 The only issue is our dog has her own issues with traffic noise and we were closed to a busy dual carriageway.
