For a full-on nature fix, head to the Hampshire countryside and settle down among the trees, ferns and free-roaming ponies at Ocknell Caravan and Camping Site. This peaceful site is in the north of the New Forest National Park and it’s a fabulous spot for unwinding amid gorgeous greenery. The site's simple pitches are entirely surrounded by heath and woodlands, with direct access to walking trails that crisscross the countryside in all directions. You won't be staying on a perfectly maintained lawn (rock pegs are strongly recommended for tents), but this proximity to nature and wildlife will be a big plus for couples, families and friends looking for a back to basics getaway in stunning surroundings. To make sure the impact on nature is minimal, facilities at Ocknell Caravan and Camping Site are limited – toilets are available, but there are no showers. Purpose-built barbecues (but not disposable ones or firepits) are allowed, but you'll need to keep them raised off the forest floor and don't light them anywhere other than on site to protect the forest landscape. The site is a couple of miles' drive from the peaceful village of Fritham, home to an independent pub and plenty of options for walking and cycling. For independent shops and cafés, head into the New Forest’s unofficial ‘capital’ Lyndhurst (20 minutes’ drive), or for a supermarket haul head to Ringwood (15 minutes along the A31).

喜欢 The weather

不喜欢 The site is OK and toilets are OK. But when we arrived at the man at the front said we can park our vw size van anywhere as long as it's 6m from anyone else. Well the place was so full that there was not any 6m gaps and we drove round and round until we had to give up and go home. Site wasn't interested nor did they say it was full on the way in, so they got to keep our money. And when we left they were still allowing people in, with non refundable fees of course!. First and last time in a new forest site

喜欢 The new Forest is beautiful. The staff here were friendly and welcoming. The facilities were really clean. You could choose where to pitch within reason. We were able to add another night at the last minute.

不喜欢 I could hear the traffic from the dual carriageway at night, but that's not the campsites fault.

喜欢 We liked it all! We only had a short stay but it was sufficient for our needs.

不喜欢 Not a campsite to be staying long term if you haven’t got showering facilities of your own! But don’t let that put you off as it’s a great site!

喜欢 Beautiful location. Really enjoyed our stay there. Nice relaxed atmosphere and made to feel very welcome immediately on arrival. Toilet facilities exceptionally clean and modern. Pot washing stations perfectly situated with instant hot water. 👏

不喜欢 Only snag is no showers. One night manageable but in scorching temperatures not so easy to be refreshed! 🙄
