If you’re picking holiday reads to bring to Whitemead Caravan Park in Wool, Dorset, there’s one blindingly obvious contender: step forward local lad Mr Thomas Hardy. Reread your old copy of Tess of the D’Urbervilles down here and you may just spot a few similarities between a couple of local buildings and certain locations in the novel. Even if literary references aren’t your thing, there are many reasons to plant yourselves at this family-run park in the Dorset village of Wool. Chief among these may well be its easy access to a plethora of transport options: make life easy by leaving your car or caravan on site and toddling a few minutes to the train station or bus stops for your days out. Alternatively, get legs going on the network of local walking and bike paths – heaps of fab attractions are within easy reach on foot or two wheels. Upon your return to the village, reward your efforts with a feed of fish and chips or a restorative pint of local ale at one of the two pubs within staggering distance. Also within a few minutes’ walk are a butcher and a baker (sadly no candlestick maker) where you can pick up fresh food for the evening barbie. Less poetic but no less convenient are the village’s two supermarkets, and the park’s own mini market, full of handy essentials. If you didn’t quite manage to tire your kids out during the day, send them over to the playground, or wander over to the games room for a few rounds of pool, darts or table football. Wifi is available if they need a little bit of quiet time alone to play with gadgetry. The park stretches over five acres so you can always find a shaded spot to settle down with a glass of wine and a Hardy novel (other authors’ works are also permitted..).

Tyckte om Lovely site , spotless toilets and showers with music playing while you shower which is a really good idea . Staff are excellent and can't do enough for you they check the site regularly and make sure all is okay . We had a large grass pitch which was perfect so ko complaints at all
Site is situated just a 5 minute walk away from the rail and bus station from where you can get almost anywhere without driving so perfect. Site also has a shop and pool room on site. Loved this site and the area so much we are returning in August . Cant wait .

Tyckte inte om The only thing really is the Wi Fi which is not free and costs £2.50 a day which when there are 4 of you it works out expensive. Just a small gripe but certainly not enough to put me off

Tyckte om We have been here twice before and I can say we are already looking at the dates to come back.

The facilities are spectacular, clean, private and well kept.

The site is quiet and with the quiet hours this suits us as a couple who just want some peace to get away.

The instructions from staff ie timings, codes and all other information is perfect

The shop on site is perfect for any last minute bits you have forgotten.

The butchers a stones throw away is one of the best ones we’ve ever been to and the price is very reasonable with such a variety to suit all.

On the whole another fantastic stay with no complaints other than we would love to of stayed longer 🙄

We assume you are referring to the two gates either side of the the right of way that cuts through our campsite from the village to the river, which separates our top field from the middle and bottom fields. Unfortunately, we cannot change the right of way and we added the gates for the safety of our guests. To avoid having to use these gates, please request a pitch in our top field near our facilities block next time you book. :)

On the edge of the Isle of Purbeck and halfway between Bournemouth and Dorchester, Wool is handily placed for reaching some excellent attractions. Closest to the park are Monkey World and the Tank Museum in Bovington, both within a five-minute drive, 10-minute cycle or half-hour walk. If you’d like to play at being a knight, 15 minutes’ drive brings you to Corfe Castle, a medieval ruin with nooks and crannies for hiding out. Five miles south are the sea and the Jurassic Coast’s most famed attractions – Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door. Other options for days out include cycling around Wareham Forest followed by boating on the River Frome from Wareham (10 minutes’ drive), or a trip on the Swanage Railway half an hour away, or – well, it’s safe to say you won’t get bored...
