Cyclist, walker, angler or dog owner? Whether you’re one or all of the above, Twin Lakes France, a relaxed site set in the countryside with a couple of catch-and-release fishing lakes (PS: chances to angle for carp and roach are included in the price), is a friendly bolthole in the Charente-Maritime.​​ If you’d rather take to the water than rest beside it with a rod, the park also has swimming pools for a spot of submerging and a bar with a view of the lakes for putting your feet up while sipping a cold beer (or three). When thoughts turn to getting out and about, Twin Lakes is close to many pictureworthy French villages hosting authentic markets, and cycling and walking paths are easily accessible. It’s just over a five-minute from Montendre – stop here for a supermarket – and half an hour from tasting sessions in the liquor houses of Cognac. Back on site after a bit of booze, there’s ample green space next to the lakes for you to spread out on while the dog snuffles about and the sprogs take on the play area. Events are organised through the year, including weekly trivia nights and bingo, and mornings are given a boost with bread delivery from a local bakery (during high season).

Este é um camping acolhedor e bem cuidado, com proprietários ingleses simpáticos e um ótimo bar/restaurante. Os hóspedes elogiaram as instalações limpas, Wi-Fi rápido e agradáveis caminhadas pelos lagos, destacando as excelentes oportunidades de pesca. Gostou Owner very friendly & goes out of his way to please visitors, sanitary facilities satisfactory. Pleasant walks around the two lakes.

Não gostou The bar/restaurant area, although very convenient & seemed popular, was very noisy into the early hours which wasn’t acceptable for us.

We are a very small campsite and everything is within a very short walking distance so I can understand why you may think the bar was noisy. In future, if you are visiting a campsite and there is unnecessary noise please let the owners know so we can sort the situation out. We are at the campsite all the time and would prefer to hear the problem when it happens rather than in a review. We are very approachable and strive to make improvements so everyone has a pleasant stay.

Gostou Fab campsite. Very friendly English owners. Nothing was too much trouble. Very well placed for the river Gironde with its beautiful seafood restaurants. Lovely little villages and nice for cycling.

Gostou Way better than we ever expected. Easy to find, friendly staff on arrival. We had no idea it was run by English so it was a pleasant surprise, lots of English friendly people staying on site too. Showed to our pitch and around the place soon as we arrived.
Site is amazing, so quiet, clean facilities. Local on site bar/restaurant which we ate in twice and not a single fault to be had. Fish & chips was lovely! Prices reasonable.
Pool was great, kids loved it.
We actually loved it so much we extended our stay by an extra 2 nights. Only moving on as we planned to move around in France but we hope this site hasn't ruined our expectations of other sites!
So many other campers on site say they come here every year, so I think that speaks for itself.
We cycled into town, only 10 minutes ride. Experienced the food market that was on a Tuesday, very nice food.
Added bonus that we didn't realise, really good Wifi in all areas of the site. (80mb) Better than my Wifi at home!

Não gostou My only real criticism is that the pool needs a bit of TLC, few loose tiles around the edges, but I really am being picky. I am sure the staff would do this before it came dangerous.

Atrações locais

Make your way to the outskirts of Montendre, the local town, to meander around the Mysterra maze set in woodland (10 minutes’ drive) or roam around the Baron Desqueyroux Lake. Set foot in the town centre for a nosey at the castle, then head on a jaunt to Jonzac (20 minutes). This pretty little town is home to the geothermally heated Les Antilles de Jonzac waterpark – visit for dips in the lagoon and wave pools or to bask in the bubbles of the Jacuzzi. To offset all this rather indulgent R&R, channel your inner high roller in the casino or leave town for tasting sessions in a Gironde estuary vineyard like the Maison de la Vigne et des Saveurs in Archiac. Cognac (30 minutes) and its surrounds also have brandy-production places that are open to the public if you’d like to learn more about this famed area’s alcohol-making heritage. If it’s not a holiday without a walk on the beach, bound over to the seaside resort of Talmont-sur-Gironde (55 minutes) or roam to Royan at the mouth of the Gironde estuary (an hour and five minutes). Back inland for more tipple tasting, Bordeaux and local wine villages like Saint-Émilion are around an hour’s drive.
