Want to feel like you’re getting a secluded and peaceful getaway without having to give up being close to other people? At Dartmoor Halfway Inn, a family-friendly site in the grounds of a pub-restaurant 10 minutes’ drive from the town of Newton Abbot in Devon, South West England, you get the best of both worlds. Two minutes from the edge of Dartmoor National Park, The Halfway Inn is well placed for exploration – you can walk, cycle, ride, canoe or climb your way around the park, travel from scenic village to scenic village, or learn about the history of the area. The site and pub are dog friendly too, so ramblers should feel free to bring their canine companions along for the walk. On site, kick back by the river Lemon, which passes just behind the campgrounds, or relax in the open green field – kids who aren’t quite ready to sit still for the evening can burn off any residual energy in the on-site playground. When the whole family is ready for dinner, stroll over to the Halfway Inn for a slap-up meal, then knock back a few beers or a couple of glasses of wine – or juice for the kids – and toddle back to where you’re spending the night less than 200 metres away. If you’d prefer a change of scenery, there are plenty of other restaurants in Newton Abbot and within 10 minutes’ drive of Halfway Inn.

Gostou Pitches was lovely and big in size , loved how private pitches were as well- Amazing location if your interested in Paignton and Torquay areas. Very scenic .

Não gostou Only 1 toilet on side for 20 pitches - noticed most people who stay is in converted vans like myself and partner which does not have toilets in them due to room (VW T5). So was constantly queing for the toilet and only 2 showers .

Gostou Well laid out pitches, spacious well maintained. All facilities were clean and well thought out. The site was compact but the way it was laid out you did not feel you were on top of people.
Pub was friendly good beer, excellent cider and the Sunday roast was very nice.
Friendly staff.

Não gostou The smell from the sewage disposal was at times unpleasant.
No facilities to dispose of grey waste water.

Gostou Lovely, small site with all you need facilities! amazing pub on site with friendly, helpful staff. We loved the private pitches with hedges and all in facilities.

Não gostou The showers and toilets could be cleaned more frequently, the pub could have a few items for sale to save driving to local shops for milks etc.

You can barely turn a corner in this part of Devon without coming face to face with a stately manor – Bradley, Compton Castle, Greenway, Castle Drogo, Coleton Fishacre, Cockington Court, Torre Abbey and Dartington Hall are all with 45 minutes’ drive, and a visit to the spectacular 16-sided A la Ronde, 35 minutes away, is highly recommended. Tipplers might like to make the trip to Buckfast Abbey outside Buckfastleigh (10 minutes), though you won’t be able to do tours or tastings at the factory. If the Abbey doesn’t get you steaming, head to the South Devon Railway and climb aboard the vintage train, or abandon alcohol-related puns altogether and head to the Buckfast Butterfly Farm and Dartmoor Otter Sanctuary. Fawlty Towers fans will be keen to learn that Torquay is less than 30 minutes away. Although you can no longer visit the real-life hotel behind the comedy, there’s plenty to keep you entertained: follow the Agatha Christie Mile to get a glimpse of some of the spots that inspired the murder mystery maven, dive below the Devon coast in the prehistoric Kents Cavern, or play giant at Babbacombe Model Village.
