Zebras, tigers and bokibokies await in these handsome Hampshire surrounds – taking the kids to see Marwell Zoo's multitude of beasts is likely to make for some very happy hols indeed. Marwell Resort is within walking distance of this much-loved menagerie and is home to plenty of adventurous action in its own right – head here if you like the sound of oodles of outdoor activities in a pretty lakeside setting. The team at Marwell Resort have been instructing for more than 25 years, so they're well qualified to help you try out sports like archery and clay pigeon shooting. (Please note that many of these activities have a minimum age restriction applied.) The site lake has a total of nine swims available for anglers (mega-sized carp can be found in its waters, including whoppers weighing up to 45 pounds). Surrounded as it is by trees, it also looks pretty fine (especially at sundown) and is a popular spot with local wildlife. Marwell Resort has strong all-round facilities, including toilets, showers and wifi. There's also an on-site bistro restaurant that serves up nourishing meals seven days a week. You can set up a barbecue and cook your own grub, too (stock up on fresh meat and veg 15 minutes' drive away at Westlands Farm Shop).

Gostou Staff on reception were friendly enough that’s about all.

Não gostou The whole place looks run into the ground, shabby shower blocks virtually no water pressure which took on average about 12 mins to fill a 40 litre barrel. The queue was awful, toilets were bad, no live entertainment in the week and no staff on outside bar. Playpark was out of action tbf being renewed but no notice of that on the website when booking. All the go kart and go ape is over grown and just seemed like a tired site that’s lost its spark we won’t be back.

Gostou I liked the friendly staff at the office. The size of the pitch was also good. We didnt actually get a lot of time on site due to being out most of the day. But we loved going to the top of the pitches on our side of the site. They had a covered seating area. We would sit up there at night and look at the stars. Even watched a storm. It was very nice.

Não gostou Have to say even though it's a nice shower and toilet block. They need staff checking it at an evening. This was on a very busy bank holiday week, during a heatwave. Most evenings I went in there. The toilets were digusting. One looked like it had blood all over the floor? Or something red at least. One had toilet tissue blocking the toilet. Most had zero paper in them. We also all despertly needed showers and even though they were hot. You got about 2 out of 12 presses of the button that actually ran any water out the shower. Due to not having enough pressure or the boiler or something. This needs to be addressed. Also they could really do with a bigger freezer in the wash up building near the shop. It was always full. Maybe they had another bigger one somewhere else. I'm not sure.

Gostou Toilet/shower block was clean (Ladies and Mens)
Food at the restaurant is lovely
Mini Golf on site but for young children no good
The little Woodland walk is okay

Não gostou Up on arrival we was given the site mop but wasn't told no park on site anymore, the meadow dog walk is shut and overgrown.

The family wet room that is in the disabled toilet is dirty and no toilet seat so it's unhygienic when having a shower with young children.

We actually cut our stay on site short as the site is no good for young children as there isn't anything to do with them - I did complain to the receptionist and she gave us free pass into the soft play area but even that is a kick in the balls as people was walking through the restaurant and going in for free anyway.

Gostou We have been coming to marwell for a few years not and it never fails to disappoint. Amazing staff, always so helpful. Toilets and showers are always kept clean and tidy. The younger Kids had an amazing time, with the ridiculously hot weather they thoroughly enjoyed water gun fights, being able to access water without any issues (had other campsites that have refused them to use the water for water fights) the older kids we to the lake to fish, although they didn’t catch anything they really enjoyed it. thank you all for another great stay. Roll on next time

Gostou We have been coming for years and we love it.

Não gostou We do miss the tree top activity and noticed a lot of the obstacles have gone from the woods which is a shame. Hopefully they’ll be back next year.

Atrações locais

Marwell Zoo (five minutes' drive) has over 140 different species to admire – you can also leave the car back at base and stroll over (about 20 minutes) for a pedestrian safari. Paultons Park (25 minutes' drive) is another perennial fave for family-oriented days out – here you can meet Peppa Pig, crash down log flumes or opt for wanders through a dinosaur-filled forest. The South Downs National Park has some truly splendid hiking trails, including the 100-mile-long South Downs Way (the trail starts 15 minutes down the road in Winchester). Mountain bikers also have plenty to choose from around these parts – an exhilarating bike track through the woods is on hand in the nearby village of Bishopstoke (10 minutes). The gorgeous New Forest National Park (25 minutes) is also within easy reach, and one of the best ways to get around is by open-top tour bus. There are three routes to choose from – it all comes down to whether you prefer vistas of heather-covered heathland or coastal explores. Speaking of the sea, beaches like Lepe and Highcliffe Castle (both 40 minutes) are very much worth the journey (make sure to pack jelly shoes and a towel if at all tempted).
