Whether it’s an active or a lazy Lake District getaway you have in mind, Lowther Holiday Park will get the opening scenes rolling splendidly. What might these scenes look like? Well, when you’re not unwinding in the site’s 40-acre managed woodland in the Eden Valley or paddling in the river running through the site, you might be out boating on Ullswater, which is accessible from Pooley Bridge 10 minutes’ drive away. Have a gander at the medieval ruins of Lowther Castle & Gardens, which lie at the end of a quiet 40-minute woodland walk from the site. Then, recharge your batteries at one of the period pubs in Askham, 10 minutes’ drive away from the site. There’s also a family-run bar on site with outdoor entertainment in the summer. Down a mile-long, newly-laid and private tarmac drive lined with mature trees, this place really feels like a wildlife haven. The long Lowther river snakes through the site, so wade around the shallows and keep your eyes peeled for native red squirrels, wild rabbits and birds. You wouldn’t guess that junction 40 on the M6 is just 10 minutes’ drive away. Access to the site is through the scenic village of Eamont Bridge.

Gostou We liked the location and nice walks along the river. Nice shop.

Não gostou The first night a warden had to comr round at about 10.15 after someone had complained about a noisy group of people talking, swearing and playing music but sadly the next night the same group were all in one tent talking loudly until about 1am so we left a night early as we were so tired. We should have complained but it would be better if the warden could have a drive round and check the noise levels.

Gostou The location is beautiful.

Não gostou This site's facilities are very dated. The toilet block had not been cleaned the entire time we were there and was dirty and smelly.
Fortunately we have our own toilet and shower in our motorhome as it was unpleasant using them.
The rubbish areas were overflowing. There was a general air of neglect around the camping site.
We also felt the pitches were too small. We felt very close to our neighbours. It was a bank Holiday weekend so it was very busy.
At £50 per night we expected much more, unfortunately we will not be returning, there are much nicer sites around that are cheaper.

Gostou Location - easy to get to and also a good base for exploring around the lake district

Não gostou Toilets - We were there from Friday - Sunday and I did not see them get cleaned once. They smelt foul! The showers work on a push button that last for four seconds. The hair dryers didn't work except for one out of three. For £50 a night these bathrooms were disgusting. The bins were overflowing as well.
The whole site felt very crowed and I'm not sure if spacing is 6 metres apart. If you like space and well maintained facilities avoid this site.

Gostou Shower facilities were clean and tidy and no queues even though site was full.

Gostou Location was fantastic for days out to Ullswater and Aira Force.
Kids loved the parks on the site.
Pub was decent prices for foot and drink, nice outdoor seating area too.
Easy check in (we did ask for pitches next to friends but this was communicated by pitch up so make sure to ring up beforehand!)

Não gostou Only reason for marking down is because there are no toilets in the camping field. With small children and an older adult who needed to go in the night it was a fair walk! Toilets were not cleaned regularly enough either.

Set an early alarm, because you’ll want plenty of time to explore the Lake District’s second-largest lake. There’s a 20-mile path around Ullswater, which is accessible from Pooley Bridge (10 minutes’ drive). So, take it all in on foot, or opt for the boat hire and cruises if you’d like to cover as much ground (or rather, water) as possible in one go. Haweswater Reservoir (half an hour) isn’t as busy as Ullswater, making it a great pick for more peaceful days out hiking. Penrith (10 minutes) will pick up the pace once again; there’s the popular Beacon Hill hike for those not done with the outdoorsy adventures and a museum and 14th-century castle for those interested in a slice of history. As Lowther Holiday Park is so close to the A66 and the M6, it’s not so tricky to take a day trip to the Yorkshire Dales National Park (45 minutes), Hexham (an hour and 15 minutes) or Barnard Castle (an hour and five minutes) either.
