Fresh air, wind in your hair and the sounds of nature… Rural holiday dreams, right? Get a good dose of all the above at Shepherds Views Holidays, a small, family-run site on a working farm a few minutes’ drive from the village of Holmrook in Cumbria, North West England. Shepherds Views, less than five minutes from the edge of the Lake District National Park, is a top spot for an outdoor getaway. There are hundreds of walking routes throughout the park for all levels of difficulty – keep your eyes peeled for otters, deer, eagles and the elusive red squirrel as you go. If you’re more comfortable on two wheels than two legs, hire a bike on site and head off on one of the many cycle and mountain biking trails that crisscross the park, or follow Hadrian’s cycleway, which passes the Shepherds View entrance. You can also take to the water an hour away with boat hire, steamer and launch trips, and rafting and canoeing, or venture out of the Lake District National Park and head over to the coast, less than five minutes away, for swimming or exploring the beaches. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, make your way back to site where you can fire up the barbecue, pile it high with all your faves, then chow down with Rex stretched out next to you beside the campfire – if you’d prefer a break from cooking, there are plenty of restaurants within half an hour of Shepherds View.

Gostou Good site layout, good pitch size, and designated car parking spot next to pitch. Rachel was amazing and was very friendly and visible around the site. She also had some great recommendations for us and was full of local knowledge.
Location to Wast Water is great for a day out paddling.

Não gostou 8 toilets and showers for the whole camp which sometimes had decent queues at peak times (understandable). Would like some spare toilet rolls available near the toilet entrance or in the toilets as a couple of times they were empty (i took my own after the first time getting caught short aha) (Rachel was working extremely hard zipping around trying to dive in to check between people using them at peak times)

Unfortunately i cant leave spare toilet rolls out as they just get taken, i have tried this in the past
We have two shower blocks in total, 9 showers and toilets, our site is only small which means we have over the recommended amount.

Gostou This site is perfect for what we needed it for we went to Eskdale and Wasdale for the waterfalls and pools the lady that runs it is amazing and goes above and beyond and lovely little site, fish and chips are also only about a mile down the road, it does have a donkey l, horse, cows, chickens and alpacas and at night bo light pollution and it is lovely sitting with your fire pits watching the stars after a beautiful day spent walking and swimming in waterfalls and pools for us it was the perfect site, there is some improvements being done but these things take time cannot fault it wi fi not fab but we don't wi fi when we are camping anyway so that's perfect for us x

Gostou Nice campsite
close to a beach
You get a free fire pit with every pitch
The one shower blocks are unisex so if you don’t feel comfortable with that
there is a another shower block with separate cubicles
The last day campsite got quite busy so might be bit of Que so go for shower early and check there’s toilet paper on them first
And got quite dirty
We paid extra for a extra large pitch which was nice so the dog had plenty of space

Não gostou Pitch on a bit of slope but we’ve stayed on worse

Gostou Rachael was amazing! So helpful and kind.
The campsite was lovely, the pitch was spacious and well kept. Facilities were nice. Lots of space for the dog, the children loved the animals too. We had the best time and didn't want to leave!

Quite campsite.

Não gostou Not enough toilets and showers. Facilities not cleaned enough. Unisex showers and toilets are a very bad idea.
Washing up area next to the bins and cows shed.
Fridge was in a very bad condition, not really owners fault but because of the campers not taking care while using it.

Showers and toilets are cleaned everyday to a high standard by myself, before booking it states that we have unisex showers and toilets, having these means we are able to cater to everyone.
It also states that we are located on a working farm, so cows and farm buildings are to be expected.
If you had discussed with me any of this during your stay i would have been able to address any issues you may have had.

All guests receive the same level of customer service from myself, before arrival, on arrival and during there stay.
I would personally suggest reading further into a site before booking it, as all of the above is stated before booking.

Clamber aboard the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway (10 minutes’ drive from Shepherds Views Holidays) for a trip through the Lake District under someone else’s steam, then venture to Horse and Husky for horse riding and dog sledding. Making your way to Wast Water lake, 25 minutes from site, is a must too, even if you just stop and soak up the absolutely stunning views – you’ll feel your stress melt away. Active sorts will want to swim on over to West Lakes Adventure, 25 minutes from the site, where they can try canyoning, canoeing, rock climbing, archery, abseiling, raft building, mountain biking and paddleboarding. For a feel of what it must have been like to live that Upstairs Downstairs, Downton Abbey type of life, take a trot around the gardens at the spectacular Muncaster Castle, 10 minutes from Shepherds Views, or trip along to the stately home of Wordsworth House (the childhood home of poet William Wordsworth) where you can poke around the rooms, root around in the gardens and let the kids go wild. Kids still chafing at the bit? Get in the car for an excursion to Jump Mania trampoline park, Lake District Coast Aquarium or Lake District Wildlife Park, all within an hour of site.
