  • Family-friendly, family-run site on a working farm in Cumbria
  • Less than five minutes’ drive from Lake District National Park
  • Top spot for walking, cycling and watersports
Fresh air, wind in your hair and the sounds of nature… Rural holiday dreams, right? Get a good dose of all the above at Shepherds Views Holidays, a small, family-run site on a working farm a few minutes’ drive from the village of Holmrook in Cumbria, North West England. Shepherds Views, less than five minutes from the edge of the Lake District National Park, is a top spot for an outdoor getaway. There are hundreds of walking routes throughout the park for all levels of difficulty – keep your eyes peeled for otters, deer, eagles and the elusive red squirrel as you go. If you’re more comfortable on two wheels than two legs, hire a bike on site and head off on one of the many cycle and mountain biking trails that crisscross the park, or follow Hadrian’s cycleway, which passes the Shepherds View entrance. You can also take to the water an hour away with boat hire, steamer and launch trips, and rafting and canoeing, or venture out of the Lake District National Park and head over to the coast, less than five minutes away, for swimming or exploring the beaches. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, make your way back to site where you can fire up the barbecue, pile it high with all your faves, then chow down with Rex stretched out next to you beside the campfire – if you’d prefer a break from cooking, there are plenty of restaurants within half an hour of Shepherds View.

What customers say

A clean, well-kept farm campsite with spacious pitches and helpful staff like Rachael. Enjoy fire pits, nearby beaches, and farm animals. Facilities are modern but watch for occasional toilet paper or hot water issues.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite (large)

Liked Firstly we were camping during storm Floris, the lady who runs the campsite, was great with advice and even drove around before she went to bed checking that we were all okay, the same in the morning, she regularly checked in with the campers.
The exercise field for dogs was good and clearly marked, the toliets and showers warm and a basic standard of cleanliness though out the whole trip.
It was a quite camping site with various sections no more than about 20-25 tents in 1 area.
There was plenty for space on the pitches as well as firepits on all pitches.
All the communal areas close together so not far to walk.

Disliked Personally feel like the shower and toliets need a good deep clean, it wasn't awful by any means but the dirty finger prints had remained in the same place all week.
The horse and Alpacas field has a lot of ragwort and dropping in. As a previous owner this was a concern but wouldnt be an issue to others.

I am pleased you enjoyed your stay

The showers and toilets are cleaned daily, during busy periods its not possible for me to deep clean the showers and toilets as i have a constant amount of guests coming in and out and using them. They are deep cleaned in quiet periods.
All our animals are well cared for and extremely well looked after, the animals get moved regularly out of the field so we can clear the area for them to go back in.
If you had mentioned your concern for my animals, i would have been able to inform you of this.

Thanks Rachael

Camping pod

Liked We stayed in a camping pod which was really comfortable: good mattresses, sockets available, clean and tidy. Amazing private area around with everything needed: shelter, bench and BBQ grill. Toilets&showers are close to the site.

Disliked Pressure in all taps are too high - water was going everywhere. Showers could have been cleaner.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review

Showers and toilets are cleaned everyday to a high standard, Mops are provided outside the showers and toilets for guests to mop up after themselves during the night and throughout the day after showering, i unfortunately cant mop and clean up after every guest each time the shower rooms are used.

The pressure in all the taps are set to standard.

We hope you enjoyed your stay with us

Thanks Rachael

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite (large)

Liked Clean site, clean showers & toilets etc.
The young lady who does reception, delivers wood, shows people to pinches etc etc works really hard to make your stay enjoyable and always tries to accommodate where shf can. A great asset to the campsite.

Disliked Bins a bit too close to the washing up sinks, as when its hot you can smell them a bit whilst washing up.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite (large)

Liked Location was brilliant close enough to beach & lakes but secluded so nice and relaxing. Had a tent with electric hook-up the pitches are big so you don't feel on top of your neighbour, the site provide wood which you can purchase for the firepit that is on each pitch, great for toasting marshmallows and cosy fireside chats. The facilities are unisex, clean and tidy. We will definitely return.

Liked Location was excellent

Disliked One car at the pitch I understand but was a bit of a nightmare when unpacking and repacking on departure. Which then led to us checking out late at 11:12am then the grass cutter operator driving stupidly close to our cars when there was other areas to do first. Could of caused unnecessary damage if he could of waited 5 minutes while we got the kids/dog in the car.

Extra cars details are all stated before booking, they are also advised to you at the time of booking and on arrival, The person who cuts the grass, that is his profession, he is experienced and has never caused damage to anyone vehicles or units. Both your cars where parked at the pitch when checking out breaking the safety rules which are given to you on arrival and before arrival.
Check out is 11am, all maintenance work starts at 11am as we are extremely busy and need to make sure all our pitches are ready for when arrivals come in at 1pm
We prioritise the pitches which are coming in on the day, these pitches happened to be the ones next to your pitch

You had both cars up at the pitch when checking out after being advised not to do so which meant you where taking up two pitches which we needed that day, hence why the grass was being cut around that area.

Rachael

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Loved the layout of the campsite and individual showers and toilets. Clean and tidy everywhere, and everything we needed.

Disliked Proximity to playing field meant that as a family that get up early, it meant we were kept awake late by kids playing football.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review Louise

Our playing field is located on the far side of site, on an evening as it starts to get dark the playing field is unable to be used due to the fact it isn't lit. I walk round every night at around 1030-11 just before quiet hours which is 11pm. No one was using the field at these times due to the lack of light. I am on site 24/7

Kind regards,
Rachael

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Cleanliness of the toilet/showers
Approachability of staff
Onsite shop - reasonably priced
Campfire was great

Disliked The only thing which was stressful for someone living 5 hours away was the check in time but as this is a family ran business you have to appreciate this and ensure you can set off as early as possible. Other than that, I can’t recommend enough!
