  • Family-friendly, family-run site on a working farm in Cumbria
  • Less than five minutes’ drive from Lake District National Park
  • Top spot for walking, cycling and watersports
Fresh air, wind in your hair and the sounds of nature… Rural holiday dreams, right? Get a good dose of all the above at Shepherds Views Holidays, a small, family-run site on a working farm a few minutes’ drive from the village of Holmrook in Cumbria, North West England. Shepherds Views, less than five minutes from the edge of the Lake District National Park, is a top spot for an outdoor getaway. There are hundreds of walking routes throughout the park for all levels of difficulty – keep your eyes peeled for otters, deer, eagles and the elusive red squirrel as you go. If you’re more comfortable on two wheels than two legs, hire a bike on site and head off on one of the many cycle and mountain biking trails that crisscross the park, or follow Hadrian’s cycleway, which passes the Shepherds View entrance. You can also take to the water an hour away with boat hire, steamer and launch trips, and rafting and canoeing, or venture out of the Lake District National Park and head over to the coast, less than five minutes away, for swimming or exploring the beaches. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, make your way back to site where you can fire up the barbecue, pile it high with all your faves, then chow down with Rex stretched out next to you beside the campfire – if you’d prefer a break from cooking, there are plenty of restaurants within half an hour of Shepherds View.

Working farm site with roomy, tidy spots & helpful staff. Clean facilities, fire pits, and close to beaches. A few minor notes on loo paper & shower temp/pressure. Peaceful, organised, family-friendly; folks want to come back.

Liked Rachael couldn’t have been more accommodating and welcoming for our stay. The site was lovely - good pitches, plenty of space, plenty of clean and well maintained facilities, quiet and our children loved the animals! Really close to Seascale beach too which was a big hit for us.

Disliked None.

Camping pod

Liked Lovely place, the owners were fantastic, and answered all questions I had. Rachael was lovely and recommended some great places to visit. Nothing was too much trouble. Glamping pods were very clean, cosy and the beds were comfortable.
Shower and toilet facilities were excellent.
We had a fantastic time and will definitely be back again.
I’ve already recommended to other people.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Clean bathrooms, showers were warm, friendly staff

Disliked No views, site is surrounded by a hedge. I’m a deep sleeper so was ok but cows do moo at night which might affect light sleepers.

From the manager: Thank you for your review
Our campsite is located on a working farm, farm noise is to be expected
The hedges surrounding site are to prevent the wind, this allows tents to have shelter. We have great views of the mountains from the top of site.

Thanks Rachael

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Large spacious well marked pitches, free firepits, plenty of drinking water taps, dog exercise field, quiet at night, no cars on after dark, helpful staff, takeaways delivered to site.

Disliked Need to check toilets more regularly as they were out of toilet roll a couple of mornings.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent site (large)

Liked Really friendly staff, lovely quiet surroundings other than a few moos from the local cows (which we did not mind at all) spacious pitches with plenty of space seperating each group. Stunning views over the hedges.
Would love to come back if we were ever in the area again!

Disliked On a few occasions two or three of the cubicles were without toilet roll. A map wouldn't go a miss to find all the facilities you have available as we didnt find the seperate toilet/ shower block until our last day.

Regarding a map, we do have a site brochure available in reception that has a satellite photo of site inside, i will look into getting a map created for the future, our site isn't huge and all facilities are close by and explained to each guest on arrival.

Toilet rolls are filled up every morning and evening as when necessary and checked regularly, when guests are using the facilities i am unable to get access to them to replace the toilet roll.

Rachael

Powered grass tent or trailer tent site (large)

Liked Level large pitch, hot water at washing up station, staff friendly, fridge/freezer available to use, tidy site,

Disliked Need more showers/toilets bearing in its unisex site quite and still had to wait, water pressure in one of showers low, although we knew it's a working farm the calves were very noisy as they had been kept in the barn

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review
We do have two shower and toilet blocks, in busy periods both are open, during your stay the site was quiet, the amount of showers and toilets in the shower block that was open are more than adequate for the number of guests on site at the time of your visit.

I would have appreciated it if you had advised me regarding the low shower pressure in one of the showers as i would have been able to investigate the issue.

The calves in the barn are too young to be out in a field as they are still being hand fed. Animal noise is to be expected on a working farm, however the calves do not make noise all hours of the day/night

Kind regards,
Rachael
