Off to Oxfordshire for fresh air, bike rides, rural walks and… a bit of pottery? Muster Point Campsite is part of a family-run three-acre smallholding that’s also home to an arts studio running pottery classes and art workshops. That makes this a particularly handy place to stay if you’re signing up for one of the courses or workshops at Oxfordshire Arts – but you don’t have to be arty in the slightest to appreciate a stay here. It’s also an excellent location for those seeking out walks and bike rides – it’s just on the edge of the North Wessex Downs National Landscape and both the Icknield Way and Ridgeway are close by for long-distance outings or shorter stints. Equally easy are outings to Oxford, which is about half an hour away by car (and best approached by using one of the Park & Ride services). Closer by are Wantage (the birthplace of King Alfred the Great) and Didcot (home of the Didcot Railway Centre) – both are about 10 minutes’ drive away and have a good collection of shops and places to eat, with an open-air market in Wantage too. Or maybe you’re after a country pub? There are plenty of those around too – you can walk or bike to Steventon or get in the car for Hendreds, Ardington and Letcombe Regis. Or perhaps an alfresco meal back on site? You’ll be allowed to bring a barbecue along, and there’s a great farm shop less than a mile away for fresh produce (and pick-your-own fruit in summer). Facilities in the camping paddock stretch to a kitchenette, a washing-up area and a purpose-built toilet block with a shower and two toilets.

Gostou A lovely quiet site with clean comfortable facilities. Although we didn’t use it as we were out all day the little shop / cafe was a really nice addition. Will definitely visit Muster Point again.

Gostou A lovely small campsite with everything you need , level pitch, clean and tidy , campsite has a well stocked kitchen area for snacks and drinks including a coffee machine, good selection of cakes eggs and honey for sale , friendly and welcoming owner

Gostou Everything. Very pleasant and well informed host, lovely facilities and very clean environment. Honesty shop was super handy, as was the kitchenette (with microwave!) and lots of kind help from the host to boot.

Gostou Stayed 3 nights. Pretty site, easily accessible and close to local amenities - would definately book again.

Very clean, tidy. Kitchenette, washroom, toilets and shower were simple and well kept and smelt clean and ventilated and aired.

Honesty shop was well stocked and reasonably priced. The farm shop 2 minutes drive was also really well stocked with local produce so no need to supermarket shop 👍

Sheltered by pretty poplar windbreaks the site is open and relaxed with pitches you can set up responsibly, but as you please. It was really windy one night but the trees did their job.

Bonus fire pits to hire if you don’t have your own and handy bricks if you do! It

Hosts were lovely, and I paired the visit with a pottery class but worth booking ahead to avoid disappointment as very popular.

One shower seemed limited but site was busy with camper vans as well as tents so if you’re staying more than one night and need a shower plenty of opportunities so don’t be put off. Probably the best shower I’ve used on a small site!

Gostou Such a lovely campsite. Incredibly well maintained and designed. The honest shop is a great idea with lots of fresh produce like eggs from their hens and homemade bakes. The owner is also really friendly and thoughtful, offering us a spot that was more accommodating for our doggy.

Não gostou Nothing to dislike, other than I wish we could have stayed longer.

Gostou Great level pitches surrounded by trees. Excellent facilities including two loos, shower room and a washing uo station. There are a few picnic benches to enjoy too and a shop. Really enjoyable stay.

Excellent fresh and clean facilities - the tea/coffee making facilities being particularly appreciated.

Atrações locais

Bring your bikes or boots – it’s about 3.5 miles to the Ridgeway, an ancient track that takes you towards the White Horse at Uffington, and you can pick up the similarly ancient Icknield Way close by too (pick it up a mile away in East Hendred for a good bike ride into Wantage on a recently resurfaced path). There are lots more trails to follow too, but if you’d like something different from your rural experience, perhaps take the kids to Millets Farm Centre (15 minutes’ drive) to meet cute animals, hire a boat in Abingdon (20 minutes) to pootle along the Thames or climb high into the trees at High Ropes Oxford (20 minutes). For other days out, the Didcot Railway Centre (15 minutes) is often a hit with train enthusiasts of all ages, and a trip into Oxford (half an hour) to see the historic colleges and try your hand at punting is a great choice too.
