Relaxing among green fields, trekking through the hills of the Peak District and settling down of an evening in a traditional village pub… If that sounds like your dream getaway then Burrs Manor Wild Camping, a mile from the village of Chelmorton in the Peak District, should be the very spot for you. The site is in a top spot for walking and cycling getaways, close to many of the waymarked trails crisscrossing the Peak District. The site is three miles from the start of the Monsal Trail, where you can hire bikes or explore the former railway line on foot or horseback, and less than 10 minutes’ drive from the starts of the High Peak Trail and the Tissington Trail. You can stay active on site with a game of footgolf (book in advance) or just idle around in the peace and quiet of the countryside farmland, taking in the view over the farmhouse towards the peaks. To unwind in the evenings, head to the traditional village pub in nearby Chelmorton, a 25-minute walk away, to have a bite to eat and knock one back in the beer garden. If you’d prefer to handle all the cooking yourself, barbecues are welcome on site and the towns of Buxton and Bakewell are nearby when you need to stock up on supplies.

Gostou Nice big field perfect for a group with multiple people(we had 8) and multiple cars(we had 3). Very peaceful location near many major towns and walking routes with a bus stop nearby. Had an amazing stay showers and toilets were not dirty and nice to use.

Não gostou Came back after a walk one day to see the tent had been raided as a little dog called Stanley ate two of my sausage rolls and some Jamaican ginger cake whilst we had been gone.

Gostou Beautiful surroundings and a great atmosphere at the camp site. Super easy to fill up water bottles. Toilets were kept very clean and always available. Site manager was very friendly and helpful recommending hiking routes. Would definitely stay again.

Não gostou Only one shower on site so queue times were long some mornings, but it is camping after all, so this is expected anywhere.

Gostou Beautiful spot! Clean site and well serviced shower/toilets. Great location for surrounding area. Friendly campsite lady who collected payment (sorry I forgot her name!)

Não gostou Sloping field so potentially tricky to find flat site if busy.
We stayed on the Sunday of bank hol with young kids - very loud music in the evening from one couple in particular. Other groups were on the whole more respectful and it did quieten down by 11pm ish

Gostou The view from the pitch

Não gostou Not enough showers for all campers, we stayed in the overflow field and the toilets down there weren’t pleasant. We were told upon arrival to keep noise to a minimum ‘quote - not using bongos’ however we were across from a large group of about 30 people including children who had music blasting and their kids screaming and shouting each night til past midnight despite being told numerous times from the host to keep it down. The issue wasn’t dealt with and for that we will not be returning to this site again.

Gostou Nothing. Very poorly managed a worst camping site.

Não gostou No shower nearby. One toilet was out of order, which was never fixed. Only one was in working condition but dirty. Consequently, very long que in the morning. The pitch site was too noisy (music played by other campers too loud even until midnight). Noise of aeroplane ✈️ and helicopter 🚁 at night did not let us sleep well.

There’s lots more to do in the Peak District National Park than follow trails: abseil from the viaduct at Millers Dale, explore the spectacular dams of Derwent Valley or dive below ground at Blue John Cavern – all less than an hour from Burrs Manor. The nearby towns of Buxton and Bakewell are must-visit spots too: in Buxton, go below the earth’s surface once more at Poole’s Cavern, stand under the stunning Devonshire dome, or stroll through the Pavilion Gardens. And in Bakewell? There’s plenty to see and do here too, but the one thing you must try is a Bakewell pudding... Plenty of old houses are in the area for historic and cultural days too: Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Tissington Hall are each less than 30 minutes from Burrs Manor, and The Old Manor, White Peak Estate, Little Moreton Hall, Kedleston Hall and Sudbury Hall are all within an hour’s drive. Too sedate? A more high-octane experience awaits on the rides at Alton Towers theme park, a 50-minute drive from Burrs Manor. For something that falls somewhere in the middle, try a treetop adventure full of zip lines and rope courses at Go Ape, 15 minutes from the site.
