Care Ashore Campsite

Likte We love this campsite, great location and few found another pub and cafe within walking distance!!

Likte ikke Care Ashore need to manage their bookings better, if you book via the website it gives you a pitch number where as pitchup don't. We had been there for 3 nights and someone parked on our pitch with our motorhome already there and said it was theirs! After a chat we sorted it out but the communication needs to be better if its staying as a non managed site.

Likte Love this place. Everyone is so helpful and friendly. The little shop has the essentials. Lovely and quiet place.
Toilets and showers are good.
Nice washing up shed.
Club house is lovely.

Likte We loved this site. There are just 10 pitches with EHU and the size of them is great - you have a hard standing wide enough for two vehicles and a similarly sized grass area. Pitches are not allocated and you don’t check-in when you arrive which made it feel very easy. In the main house there is a small shop and bar, and it was good to be able to walk there for a drink. It was all very peaceful and relaxing. We will definitely visit again.

Likte Very peaceful and quiet. Everything clean. Lovely site and loved the shower shacks. Big pitches and only ten electric hook up pitches so not too busy.

Likte Lovely spot with well maintained pitches. Very friendly bar. Helping Care Ashore charity. Facilities were immaculately clean this morning.

Likte ikke I can imagine if the site is busy the toilet facilities are a little busy. However, they have tried and brought in two additional showers.

Likte Lovely quiet site with large level pitches. TV signal is good, phone signal intermittent and WiFi at the bar in the house. Kitchen and 2x showers next to pitches and toilet block other side of Glampsite on the way to the bar at the rear of the house. Bar has aircon, which wad a blessing in 30 degree heat, and large TV. There's a water tap behind one of the pitches (No3) or, for motorhomes, one on the wall by the kitchen/showers.

Likte ikke Gravel driveway between pitches was noisy when driven or walked on and someone left site each day in a van around 5:30am. Some aircraft noise from being on Gatwick approach. No drive over grey waste disposal grid for onboard tanks.

Likte The staff I spoke to were absolutely lovely. But there is nothing about the site or its systems to like, sadly - I was booked in for two nights, but left within 2 hours of arrival . . .

Likte ikke Before arrival (whilst driving!) I received the following:

Reservation Details
"The following bookings are provisional and not yet confirmed" - odd, as I'd already paid in full and received confirmation.

The reservation number was given as # 5676136, but the booking number was #6286482?!? I was allocated EH Pitch 4...

I was told I needed to check-in before arrival, which required name/address/email/phone number/car registration/time of arrival etc etc - despite having already supplied these details before I left home.

I pulled off the road to complete the form and was then told:

Contactless Check In is unavailable for the following reason.
Outside Check In Window
Registration form Incomplete
Booker Details Incomplete
Guest Details Incomplete

The postcode took me down an unmade, deeply pot-holed dead-end with no turning space! I rang for help, but no-one picked up. A local helped me find the site which was initially sign-posted as Care Ashore Campsite, but after two such signs they disappeared and Springbok Estate signs took over - I didn't know these were the same site!

I arrived at a blank, sterile, un-landscaped, fenced-off rectangle with no greenery to soften the edges or offer shade, to find EH 4 already taken and no-one in sight to speak to. I rang for help again - no-one answered.

Eventually, another camper explained I would find an office in the main house, up the hill 500 metres away. There I met two of the 'residents' of the Care Ashore charity - the first attempted to not to let me in and the second later called me a cheeky, effing b**tard, presumably because I was sitting in the lounge, having been told by the lovely staff that I could enjoy the air-conditioning in the 33 degree heat?!?

I was informed that, despite having been allocated EH4, they 'didn't allocate pitches' and I could park anywhere! They also confirmed that they already had my complete booking details.

I did try to make a go of it, but, after checking up on the facilities (all poor and centred around a mini industrial estate!) decided that home seemed a better option.

The check-out questionnaire (?) I received at home was the icing on the cake - I have no intention of completing it.

Lest you suspect I am one of 'those' people, that complain about everything - please see my reviews of all other sites. EVERY one of them is glowing, including the one I stayed at on the morning before my arrival here!

There is no way this site deserves a 9/10 rating...

Our Campsite is a basic rural campsite, and both our facilities and location are accurately described in our listing. Our facilities are regularly cleaned, maintained and stocked, and many guests choose us specifically for the countryside setting.

We believe there were some misunderstandings regarding the booking and arrival process, and we do not feel this review accurately reflects either the events of the stay or the experience of the vast majority of our guests, as demonstrated by our other reviews.

Likte Very quiet surrounds, Well laid out pitches with plenty of space.

Likte ikke Limited facilities. OK if you are self contained, otherwise only 3 showers, 1 not functioning, Toilets 300m away down a track.
