Looking for a Suffolk spot with lots of open space? The dog-friendly Stonham Barns Holiday Park might hit the sweet spot. Well-placed for the Suffolk and Norfolk countryside and coast, this place is equal parts relaxing and active. The latter is very much helped by the fact that the site is part of the Stonham Barns Golf Park site, which has a whole host of family-friendly (and quite frankly fabulous) attractions… There’s a pirate-themed miniature golf course, a sensory room and a funfair with rides and bumper cars, which should all prove a hit with pint-sized guests. No need to go hunting in the trees: the Suffolk Owl Sanctuary on site has over 80 owls and daily flying displays featuring birds of prey. Catch a comedy or tribute act at the Aspal Theatre, sojourn at the fishing lakes or get creative at the pottery painting studio, all of which are on site. Among these attractions are handy foodie places too. There’s a tearoom if you’re craving an afternoon tea and cake, a restaurant powered by local produce and a village shop selling essential food fare. These pair well with the bar and clubhouse, which has sports screens and celebrity evenings, and a shopping village full of niche independent shops. Along with a showground hosting weekly events like car or dog shows and a Sunday car boot fair, these are all one to two minutes’ walk from the pitches. On the immediate site, however, the facilities include showers, toilets, a washing-up area, disabled facilities, wifi, a kids’ play area and spaces for kids to run around and let off steam. There's also a post office on site which provides cash back and other banking services.

Deze plek biedt veel activiteiten zoals golf, een uilenopvang en een winkelcentrum. De staanplaatsen zijn doorgaans goed. Personeel is vaak vriendelijk. Wel zijn er klachten over de hygiëne en staat van toilet/douchevoorzieningen, die verouderd zijn. Geluidsoverlast en beheerproblemen komen ook voor.

Ik was blij met Staff are friendly and attentive, toilets/showers were clean, big pitches and lots of space for kids to play.

Ik was niet blij met Kids play area could be improved, more arcades/stuff for children.
Really sad that the fun fair isn't there.

Ik was blij met We went very basic for our first time camping but had a great time! The lady in the camping office was very charming and helpful. Spent a few hours fishing and caught some lovely fish also met a few old boys that gave us some great advise. The site offers great activities for all the family.

Ik was niet blij met Only this i could fault was the broken locks in the mens camping toilets. (Thats just me finding something to fault)

Ik was blij met Club house food good value for money and staff friendly. Fishing lakes are great. Some lovely shops on site and a wonderful owl sanctuary.

Ik was niet blij met Toliets and shower block awful, dirty or broken and was never any toilet roll.

Ik was blij met Large open space, good sized pitches, good for star gazing.
Lady working in reception was lovely.

Ik was niet blij met Facilities were disgusting!! Out of 5 cubicles in the women’s toilets, 2 were locked out of use, 1 was blocked and 1 had no toilet paper the entire weekend we were there so just 1 usable cubicle for two days and two nights!

Ik was blij met It was quiet regardless of how many people camping.

Ik was niet blij met The cleanliness was shocking toilets and shower blocks are disgusting. Expensive for what you get. My daughter was violently ill Saturday night ending in me leaving early and I'm positive it's due to the cleanliness of the toilets and showers. The also smelt of egg. Not nice at all out of 5 toilets in ladies only 1 was working. The others were either blocked or broken. Not impressed.

Ik was blij met The legends bar was good, drinks were reasonable. We enjoyed the music. The lady that runs the site was very friendly and approachable. Plenty of open space for the kids to play. The shop also reasonably priced. My kids enjoyed looking around the shops. The security drove around at night which made us feel safe. Vintage car show was a good event that was our main reason for booking this site. We also attended the car boot on Sunday. The kids were very busy all weekend.

Ik was niet blij met The toilets weren’t very pleasant, often no toilet roll or hand soap. The funfair is no longer there also the bouncy pillow which is a shame. Unfortunately had an unsettled night due to some people having a row but the security soon sorted it. The park could do with some work. And unfortunately there were many unpleasant kids.

Lokale bezienswaardigheden

With all the attractions on site, it might be a while till you look outwards in search of entertainment. However, when you do, the Suffolk coastline is splendidly within reach, as the site is on the A1120 tourist road. Thorpeness (50 minutes' drive), Aldeburgh (45 minutes) Southwold (50 minutes) deliver on walks, watersports and simple seaside amusements. This is also an excellent place to channel your inner historian and deep dive into the past. Framlingham Castle (20 minutes) is a Norman castle with a walk across the 10-metre-high walls. Sutton Hoo (half an hour) is just as spectacular, with two medieval cemeteries where a ship with Anglo-Saxon pieces was found. Perhaps pretty walks and eating out in restored Victorian buildings next? Snape Maltings (40 minutes) on the river Alde is a splendid setting for strolls and cycles, whether around the riverside loop or joining the Suffolk Coast Cycle Route 41. Take in the scenery on a river boat or sip on something caffeinated in the many independent eating venues in the Victorian buildings.
