Outdoor accommodation specialist launches solution for campers who get caught short in the night

The Spend APPenny app in actionAs every camping enthusiast knows, having to get up in the middle of the night to go to the toilet is no fun.

After bedding down, all snug and cosy, it’s more than a wee bit annoying to realise a trip to the little boy’s (or little girl’s) room is needed.

Anyone caught short is faced with a stark choice between holding on for dear life until the morning, or pulling on some clothes and shoes and braving the dark outdoors.

Outdoor accommodation specialist Pitchup.com has invented a solution – the cleverly designed app monitors a camper’s liquid intake and calculates an individual’s bladder movement timings. It means campers can plan ahead and turn in for the night secure in the knowledge they won’t have to empty their bladder again until morning.

Pitchup.com founder Dan Yates, who designed the app in response to demand from customers, says it is 99% failsafe.

However, for those that still get caught short, the app can also track nearby satellites to ensure campers are not caught on camera doing the deed near their tents. It’s also got a compass and the latest satellite navigation technology so users can find the quickest way to the campsite toilets in the dark.

Even better, users don’t have to be ‘flush’ to get the app, as it’s free to download.

Dan says: “Our customers tell us getting caught short in the middle of the night is their number-one camping bugbear – worse than the fear of creepy crawlies, eerie sounds or an uncomfortable night’s sleep.Never get caught short with the Spend APPenny app

“The Spend APPenny app might seem like a ‘potty’ idea, but the Pitchup.com team have road-tested it and it really works.

“What’s more, users won’t have to ‘spend a penny’ to get the app as it is free to download for Android and iPhone. It’s all part of the Pitchup.com quest to make camping more enjoyable and less hassle.”

The Spend APPenny app is available to download for free from April 1, 2014.
