Caravan industry worth £6billion a year to UK economy

Even with concerns that the UK economy is heading for a triple-dip recession, things are still going strong for the caravan industry.
Recent figures by the National Caravan Council (NCC) show that not only is the industry proving resilient to financially difficult times, but that it’s making a major contribution to the British economy, generating around £6 billion a year.
Around half a million people in the UK own tourers, with another 164,000 owning motorhomes and 260,000 with caravan holiday homes.
As well as this, almost all the touring caravans (96 per cent) sold in the UK were manufactured in the country. For motorhomes, the figure is 70 per cent.
Caravan holidays are popular for a range of reasons, including their low cost, their low carbon footprint and the hundreds of places to visit in the UK, with 54 per cent of holidaymakers polled last year saying they were planning to take their annual break in the UK.
Pitchup.com has almost 2000 touring caravan sites and over 1150 sites parks with caravans for hire. To keep the costs down even more, see our regularly updated offers pages.
