What a peaceful place this is, with a gently-flowing stream and heaps of greenery – and an excellent base for hunting for fossils on the Jurassic coast or sauntering over sections of the South West Coast Path. A 20-minute drive from Charmouth and 25 minutes from Lyme Regis, Clapton Farm Caravan and Campsite is the sort of spot where evenings can be spent chatting to other like-minded folk around the communal firepit… In the daytime, you might want to scour the coast at Lyme Regis and Charmouth for fossils (or perhaps for the finest fish and chips you’re able to get your hands on). West Bay is also half an hour’s drive away for surfing, scuba diving and other watersports. Close to the Somerset and Dorset border, this is a central location if there ever was one. It’s also a friendly patch – canine companions have a large field where they can be let off their leads to play, just over the stream. The friendly hosts can often be found around the firepit in the eve or across the road in the farmhouse – they say, if you need anything, just ask. They’re sure to point you towards all the hot spots… This could include weaving between the rhododendron and the thick trunks of the Wayford Woods, 25 minutes’ walk from the site. Any picnics can be put together with goodies from the supermarkets in Crewkerne, five minutes’ drive away

Ce petit camping convivial, au cadre magnifique avec ruisseau, canards et oies, plaît beaucoup. Les propriétaires accueillants et serviables offrent souvent des visites de la ferme et des rencontres avec les animaux, un bonheur pour les enfants. A aimé Lovely campsite and views are amazing, the toilets and showers where really nice and loved the little kitchen area which even had a washing machine if you needed it. There were ducks that lived on site which was nice and also a swing over a little stream which my daughter loved. It is a nice small site and loved the picnic benches scattered around as well. Wifi was an added bonus as didn't expect this.

N'a pas aimé Nothing really, it is next to a road and there is a train line behind the site so there is noise but nothing that bothered us.

A aimé Open field so you could pitch where you wanted along a little stream. The children loved the freedom to play during the day and the communal firepit in the evening. The owners contributed to the happy and relaxed atmosphere and took children to visit their animals.

A aimé A lovely, peaceful campsite in a beautiful setting. It's a simple site, but that was part of its charm. It had everything we needed, including electric hook-up, clean amenities, a beautiful stream running through the site, and a great communal fire pit that created a really relaxed atmosphere in the evenings. If you're looking for a quiet, picturesque place to unwind, we'd definitely recommend it and would happily stay again.

A aimé Really quite a small campsite but so lovely! The hosts were amazing, particularly as one of the children in our party had a freak accident and dislocated his elbow. Lesley (hostess) was amazing and so helpful and it really was just an unfortunate accident. Appropriate and safe campfire each evening, great little stream that the kids had a blast playing in. Lovely atmosphere amongst the campers, many of whom are regulars. Took a day trip to Lyme Regis to explore the beach and harbour.

N'a pas aimé Nothing really, one point where the drinking water station wasn’t working but was rectified quickly.

A aimé How friendly the owners were, they took us for a look around the farm to meet the animals which made my daughter very happy. The site was small and quiet set in a beautiful location. We'll definitely be visiting again.. The toilet shower shed was lovely and always clean , very happy with our stay and the free WiFi was a bonus.

A aimé Lovely little farm campsite with a warm and wonderful welcome on arrival.

It has a stream at the end of the field and a big field across a bridge to walk the dogs and let them play ball. The facilities were clean and tidy.

There are free-range ducks so that was a bit tricky with high prey drive dogs but that’s an us problem. The ducks themselves were adorable. There is a train line at edge of the fields. Didn’t bother us but worth noting as it is a bit noisy when the trains come through (not very often and doesn’t last long!).

We didn’t use electric hook up but it is available if needed as was access to water.
There is no phone reception in the field which was blissful. Only an issue when we were trying to work out if we were in the right place. WiFi available to use for free. Slightly intermittent but there were two to access and as we didn’t really need it so we didn’t try the other.

N'a pas aimé The campsite is small and so it could be a bit cramped if full but fortunately that wasn’t the case when we were there on a Sunday night outside of school holidays.

Lyme Regis (25 minutes’ drive) may be a haven for fossil hunters – and those seeking to learn more about the old sea creatures that once populated the sea – but it’s also well-suited to watersports like windsurfing or visits to the marine aquarium. There are also guided fossil hunting walks in both Lyme Regis and Charmouth (20 minutes) for newbies to that sort of thing. For some simply splendid walks across the coast, sublime sea views and more possible fossils, head for Black Ven (25 minutes) and Stonebarrow Hill (25 minutes). Other scenic stretches and points of interest include Abbotsbury (40 minutes), where there’s a colony of nesting swans, and Seaton (35 minutes), a fishing town with a tramway and watersports options. Inland doesn’t disappoint either, especially for those who are looking for more outdoor activities – the lanes of the Blackdown Hills National Landscape (35 minutes) await for outings on horseback, foot or bike.
