Hallett's Rural Campsite

A aimé Super location - a short and very pleasant countryside walk to Church Ope. Ideal for exploring Portland - nothing is more than a few minutes drive away. Site was well maintained - clean - good but basic facilities. All you need. My lad and I spent two nights in the field on a spear fishing trip and loved it. Managers are nice chaps who visited the site a couple of times a day. They’ll answer the phone if you need to get hold of them. Absolutely great value price for a non-electric pitch. We’ll be back next August as I can’t think of a better spot for needs and activities. Cheers lads 🍻

N'a pas aimé I’m being picky here as I can’t think of much to add - but I guess the hand soap dispenser could be filled in the Gents. No biggie though, we brought our own.

A aimé Great basic campsite, really flat too so easy to pitch tent. Easy to find & friendly owners.

A aimé Easygoing - three fields - lots of space

N'a pas aimé Someone pitched their tent right next to our’s so guy ropes were almost touching. There were loads of other spaces to choose from. They arrived back late and then made noise well into the night! Because of this we packed up and left the next morning.

A aimé Great place to stay the kids loved it we had adult kids aswell as younger kids n they both well enjoyed it, the animals where great there was more than advertised and a lot more than the pics I’ve uploaded amazing location

A aimé Informal relaxed style. Pop up bar in evening. Friendly local owner who was present most days.

A aimé Nice touch having a bar, if you want a few drinks then it's ideal.

N'a pas aimé Bit dirty, lots of drie sheep poo around. Definitely not rural so don't expect a countryside oasis. Overlooked by houses and the view is poor. Potential to be noisy at night. We only stayed 1 of the 2 nights we booked after some antisocial guests, we went and found a quieter site.

A aimé Easy to find, compact and fenced, with all the basic facilities. Considering the very low price, it offers good value for a simple overnight stay. There are some thoughtful extras, including books to read, a vending machine with soft drinks, and facilities for sorting and recycling waste.

Although the shower cubicles are very small, they have a curtain separating the shower area from the door and hooks for your belongings. This is a simple but very practical solution, as your clothes and other belongings stay dry while you shower.

This is a small, basic budget campsite on a field directly behind residential houses rather than a secluded rural site. The houses are clearly visible from the campsite, so it may not suit someone looking for privacy or a peaceful countryside setting.

The shower cubicles are extremely small. In the ladies’ facilities there is only one sink, which is shared for washing hands after using the toilet, brushing teeth and washing dishes. There is only cold water, and campers need to bring their own washing-up liquid and sponge. At busy times, you may need to wait to use the sink.

During our stay, barbecues were not allowed because of the fire risk, which was completely understandable. However, there was no alternative way to heat food or water. In circumstances like this, access to hot water, or even the possibility of buying tea or coffee, would be very useful.

Unfortunately, we also had a very unpleasant experience with neighbouring campers. Early in the morning, we were woken by them shouting and accusing us of taking their charger. We had been asleep and knew nothing about it, but they came up to our car and tent demanding that we return it. The situation was very confrontational and stressful.

I offered to let one of them look inside our tent to show that we did not have their charger. Later, they found it themselves, and one of the younger women came over and apologised, which we appreciated.

However, by then we no longer felt comfortable staying, so we packed up and left shortly afterwards. We have stayed at many other campsites and have never experienced anything like this before.

This was not the fault of the campsite or its staff, but unfortunately it had a significant impact on our stay.

A aimé Great stay, owned by a friendly welcoming family, Beckys Cocktail Bar serves reasonably priced drinks at weekends. Location was great, with everything close by inc Bus stop for Weymouth, the SW coastal path, Tesco, pub etc.
