Off to the north coast of Cornwall for your break? Take a look at Cambrose Camping and Touring, in a handy spot a couple of minutes’ drive from Porthtowan. This family-run site is both family- and dog-friendly, and it’s well located for all sorts of outings around the coast and countryside of north Cornwall. A major draw here is direct access to the Mineral Tramways for traffic-free cycling and walking to local attractions or outings to more far-flung parts of the county. That trail also takes you to Portreath beach, a sandy stretch that’s popular with surfers and bodyboarders, and links up with the South West Coast Path for long seaside hikes. There are plenty of other beaches nearby too, including Porthtowan, Gwithian and the popular sands of Newquay (half an hour’s drive away). Back on site, you’ll be staying on flat pitches that are sheltered from any coastal breezes by mature trees. Kids can use the play areas, set up games on the playing field or have a paddle and poke around in the stream on site. There’s also a covered games area with a pool table, and in summer you’ll have the free use of an outdoor pool. Essential facilities on site include a launderette, an indoor washing-up area and bathroom blocks with refurbished toilet and shower facilities along with accessible facilities. There’s also a shop on site selling coffees, pastries and those all-important ice creams.

A aimé Wahnsinnig familiär und engagiert geführt, tolle Stellplätze. Darüber hinaus regelmäßig Pizza- und Nachoabende, tolles Ambiente. Top Lage, von dort kommt man an viele Orte und Strände in der Umgebung. Rustikal und vielleicht nicht für jede/n passend, aber für uns eine 10/10!! WLAN nicht das beste, das Handynetz im gesamten Cornwall war nicht so, hilft beim digital Detox.

A aimé Wonderful campsite for a family with great hosts. Friendly, helpful, and very welcoming. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and the kids didn’t want to leave and asked when we’re returning. Great for families and good location close to beaches and Eden Project. Thanks for having us!

A aimé Great for families with small kids: swimmingpool(very clean), playground, trampoline, football pitch, at 10:30pm everyone was sleeping.

A aimé Really well presented camp site, nice pool, great showers and good coffee. The dedicated playing field with a meadow buffer is fantastic. The location is brilliant for getting about in Cornwall and the owners have some great local knowledge to make your stay even better.

N'a pas aimé Being picky the taps to wash the pots on the lower field are too short making things tricky and the water wasn’t hot if someone else had just washed up.

A aimé Beautiful nature around, very polite and nice owners, nice shop on site. Nice and clean pool, well-kept grounds and a very family atmosphere.

N'a pas aimé The pool hours were a bit limited, particularly since we wanted to make the most of our time exploring Cornwall. It would have been wonderful if it opened slightly earlier and closed a little later, though we certainly understand! Overall, everything else was fantastic. Thank you for a great stay!

Just to clarify our pool is open daily from 10:00am to 5:00pm with a short closure between 12-2pm. These hours allow us to carry out thorough cleaning, maintenance, safety checks, and to monitor and balance the pool chemicals before guests use the facilities. The safety, cleanliness, and overall quality of our swimming pool are extremely important to us, and these essential tasks help us provide a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone. We do let all our guests know this on arrival so they can plan their days with these times in mind.

A aimé Good sized pitch, clean toilets and showers, accessible bathroom (life saver as the step into the showers is quite high for me), friendly owners and - the Ducks! Great location too but you do need to be able to drive. The site was full towards the end of our stay but there were more than enough facilities for everyone. We had a very relaxed stay, it has a very family friendly feel.

N'a pas aimé Didn't dislike anything other than having to pay extra for my tarp, lots of places seem to be charging for extras but it's just a bug bare of mine. The only other comments would be that the walk to the beach is more like 40-45 mins rather than the 20 mins stated on the website 😆 and the pool opening times are a bit restrictive for the summer holidays, it's quite a small pool and was busy so not much opportunity for a swim without avoiding crashing into people.

Attractions à proximité

You can leave the car behind for a while if you like – perhaps cycling for five minutes along the Mineral Tramway to reach the family bike park at The Track, walking 15 minutes to Cuckoo Valley Cider Farm or walking 20 minutes to the museum and gold panning at Cornwall Gold (all are within a couple of minutes’ drive too). For a day at the beach, head to Portreath (five minutes’ drive) for bodyboarding or Gwithian beach (20 minutes) for a long sandy stretch with dunes and rockpools. Elsewhere along the coast, head to St Ives (25 minutes) for art galleries and beach time, or surf hotspot Newquay (half an hour), also home to a zoo and Blue Reef Aquarium. Within an hour’s drive, you can be catching a show at the Minack Theatre, carved into the cliffs, or watching the fireworks (Tuesday evenings in summer) at Land’s End. Closer to home are Mount Hawke Skatepark and the walking/bike trails and summer shows of Tehidy Woods (both 10 minutes).
