Camping Led Zeppelin

To appreciate the palm aspect of the Riviera delle Palme, spend a few hours in San Benedetto del Tronto (15 minutes’ drive), where tall trees provide shade along the beautifully landscaped seafront promenade. Take a stroll along the harbour area, dotted with artworks including the Monument to Jonathan Seagull, then stop for a seafood meal. Known for its travertine buildings, the medieval city of Ascoli Piceno (45 minutes) spreads out from Piazza del Popolo, a square flanked by elegant arcades, imposing palazzos and centuries-old churches. Renaissance art fills the corridors at the Civic Picture Gallery, and there is also an archaeological museum with locally excavated artefacts. At Parco Regionale Naturale del Conero (one hour), trails of varying degrees of difficulty weave across Mediterranean pine groves all the way down to the sea and beaches like Spiaggia Sassi Neri, a popular spot for snorkelling. For something more exclusive, check out the Beach of the Two Sisters, which can be accessed only from the sea (you can take a boat from Numana).
