BIG4 Breeze Holiday Parks – Eildon

For hikers, there’s a short trail to Snob Creek Falls (15 minutes’ drive), a waterfall which is 100 metres high. There are plenty of more challenging hikes around Lake Eildon, but one of its most famed lookouts is Foggs Lookout (15 minutes), which has views over the dam wall, water and surrounding mountains (which you should be quite familiar with from back at base). Take a little gander at the Historic Grandfather Redgum Tree (20 minutes), which is as tall as 20 metres and has a trunk as wide as two metres. It’s one of few remaining trees from a grand red gum forest. On the other side of the lake, there’s lots to fill a day trip, from navigating the family-friendly maze at the High Country Gardens (an hour and 15 minutes) to taking off onto cross-country riding trails through rivers and outback on the Watsons Mountain Country Trail Rides (an hour and 20 minutes). If you’re after a more urban day out, Alexandra (15 minutes) is a previous gold mining town and has a running 1909 steam locomotive at the Alexandra Timber Tramway and Museum (15 minutes).
