If you’re in desperate need of a peaceful getaway, settle in at the Crooked Orchard, a quiet and secluded site 20 minutes’ drive from Weston-super-Mare in Somerset, South West England. Crooked Orchard is well placed for sedate exploration of this part of Somerset – there are several circular walks surrounding the village of Brent Knoll, a 15-minute walk from the site, and a stroll to the top of the eponymous Knoll is highly recommended for 360-degree views over Somerset. Pedallers can hire a bike on site and join route 33 of the National Cycle Network in Burnham-on-Sea, 15 minutes’ cycle away, and follow it up to Weston-super-Mare, taking in the views over the Bristol Channel along the way. It’s back on site where you’ll really get that peace you’re craving: your glamping set-up is tucked away in the corner of a field on a quiet laneway, with nothing to disturb you but the sounds of nature. Crooked Orchard is off-grid too, so there’s no electricity and no wifi – this is where midnight campfires, stargazing and country walks replace the usual distractions. When you’re hungry, get a barbecue going – piled high with goodies from the shops in Burnham-on-Sea, 10 minutes away – then kick back next to the campfire, or relax next to the woodburning stove in your designer bell tent. If you’d prefer to extend the luxury beyond the bounds of your tent, treat yourself to a meal at one of the many restaurants within 15 minutes of Crooked Orchard.
