Foxwold Huts and Camping

Me gustó A beautiful and quiet site. Really couldn't have asked for more with regards to facilities, cooking equipment and standard of accommodation. The hosts were great with a little tour of the site to begin and an explanation of where everything was and how to use things. The location is a bit off the beaten track and the toilets and shower are were an eye opener for the kids...but hey, this camping. It felt really safe for the kids to go and explore and pet the animals.

Me gustó What’s not to love! We had the best time at Foxwolds in the lovely Ruby hut. We originally booked George, and we can’t thank Kat enough for recommending that we move to Ruby so we had a log burner to warm the hut on the chilly October nights. The hut has everything you need to settle right in and enjoy this beautiful part of the world. We explored the Dales and the Lakes, both of which are an hour or less away. The campsite itself is peaceful and private, the huts are well spaced apart and we were lucky enough to have the campsite to ourselves for most of our stay. An absolute highlight has to be the beautiful starry skies complete with shooting stars, which were well worth getting up at 3am for! Thanks again Kat and family for the wonderful stay, we can’t wait to come back.

Me gustó We actually stayed in Ruby which is slightly larger than Thomas, as that was available and the owners told us the stove was better in there. Very snug and cosy with a wood burner going.

There are four shepherds huts on the site, each with plenty of space around it and open air cooking facilities outside the hut which in the case of Ruby is a sort of lean to which does shelter you if it’s raining.

In Ruby, the bed is on a sort of mezzanine level at the far end of the van and there’s a space underneath for your luggage, or if you have dogs like we do, they can sleep there.

We wish we’d been able to stay for more than just the one night, we were passing through on our way back to Manchester after staying in Scotland. Unfortunately, it was raining so heavily when we got there that we didn’t fancy trying to cook so we had a chippy tea from Shap which is only about 15-20 minutes drive away.

Each vsn has a little fire pit you can use - they even provided marshmallows for toasting in our little welcome pack - and also a picnic bench to sit on, and if we’ve had the lovely weather we had the following morning on the night we arrived, we would’ve loved to have used it.

There is also a little hut with a fridge in there that everybody can use, and if I remember right you might also be able to charge phones in there.

The composting toilet is a little way from the van, so make sure you have an umbrella - the shower is a brilliant experience, it’s gas powered and in the open air with a private wall around it. A little bit bracing in late September, but I really liked it.

Me gustó The area is beautiful, the owner is really friendly and after check in we were left alone for the entire stay.

Completely off grid, so no electric (which we loved). We had a log burner inside the hut, and you can purchase extra wood for £10 (we did have a small box of wood left in the hut for free)

Dog friendly, we will definitely be back!

Me gustó Absolutely beautiful, so peaceful, one of the most tranquil spot I have stayed in. The bed was really comfortable. The sound of nature was beautiful, and the treat of a little stream and safe place to walk the dogs. Hosts were excellent 👌

Me gustó Beautiful setting inside fruit orchard. The Shepherd Huts are spaced privately around.The huts are amply equipped with individual cooking areas and facilities.
It is suitably located for the Lakes (Ullswater literally 20 mins away).
Peace n quiet at its finest.
The proprietors are really really nice too..
Dogs enjoyed the river on the footpath adjacent.
Lovely thoughts like marshmallows and sticks for roasting, wood available for firepit or log burner.
You can hear owls and we spotted a hedgehog.

No me gustó No electric means no light in the evening.

This is not the fault of the site, I had not experienced off grid camping before and was unprepared!

Me gustó We stayed with our two children and really enjoyed. It is very spacious and cosy. There is a bunk bed and a small sofa. The bunk bed is quite large – the bottom is like a double bed, and the top can easily accommodate two children. The place is very quiet. We also made friends with their dog, Thomas. We would love to come back again one day. Many thanks to the hosts for such a cosy stay.

Me gustó The site is lovely, very quiet and close enough to the motorway which makes it great place either on your way up north or if you like to visit the Lake District. The host was amazing and very helpful. The hut itself was clean, tidy and had anything you may needed and even more! The children and us loved the place and the experience so if we're ever again in the area - definitely will book it again!!
