The first sight for many folk arriving at New Forest View is a bear. Don’t bolt… he’s called Bosworth (after the famed 15th-century battlefield nearby)… and he doesn’t move. Which is a bit of a shame for him, for there's a hefty spread of activities and attractions in the surrounding heart of England counties of Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire and beyond, from forest walks and wildlife encounters to winter sports, fishing and waterskiing. Get cracking right on site, as this small Leicestershire park for touring vehicles has its own fishing pond, bookable in advance. Next door, the coaching inn has been welcoming thirsty and hungry travellers for four centuries, with real ales, bar snacks and restaurant meals, regular Chinese and Indian carvery nights and a beer garden with a kids’ play area (which might not have been there four centuries ago…). For true fishing aficionados, there are further carp to be caught a five-minute drive away at Tucker’s Holt, and at Kingsbury Waterpark (half an hour). The latter makes a decent destination for non-anglers as well, with walks, cycle trails and birdwatching, plus waterskiing and jetskiing on the lakes. Dogs are welcome on this site.

Me gustó: Came down late on the Friday as we was travelling from Bristol owner was very understanding about our late arrival, very clean site with beautiful sunset views 🌅, pub literally next door with bouncy castle. Owner was extremely friendly and let our children watch them fishing.

No me gustó: Only dislike for me was the no hot water in the bathroom sinks or washing up area.

Me gustó: Stunning setting. Very clean. Bill and the wardens were very chatty and friendly. Easy booking in process. Shower was hot, but not very powerful, but the shower block was very clean.

No me gustó: Only a tiny niggle but paying top end for the stay then having to pay £1 for the shower was a little disappointing, although would not put me off staying again.

Me gustó: Small site but lovely location around a small fishing lake. Easy to get to and convenient. Pitches were ok in size and easy to access. Warden helpful and friendly. Pub next door was great with beer garden and playground. Allowed booking of 1 night. Site secured by a gate so secure for children. Small park area. Small fishing lake was well fenced off so safe.

No me gustó: The shower facilities were basic, cost £1 and only 1 on site so used own shower. Quite an expensive site for available facilities. Would need a car if staying longer than 1/2 nights but ok as a stop over.

Me gustó: Site is very well kept & secure with coded gate system.
warden is very helpful and friendly.
Although the kids park isn't huge my 5 year made a handful of friends and didn't come off it for the 3 nights we were there.
My other daughter who's 11 loved the fishing pool and spent 2 days fishing it. We had brought our own fishing tackle but apparently the warden rents it out too.
Lovely farm butchers about 10 mins in the car. Twycross is also around 10 mins away. Direct access through a gate off the site to the pub next door where they do food which was quite reasonably priced.
We will definitely be returning to this site!

No me gustó: Shower block only had cold water, showers are coming operated (£1 for 5 mins if I remember right)
Floor in one of the woman's toilet was spongy and felt as if it needed replacing

Me gustó: A beautiful site, with a lovely little pond that we and the children enjoyed fishing in.
Wayne, the warden was extremely helpful in all matters, when we had issues with our air awning and when we needed help with the fishing hooks!
Perfectly located for Drayton Manor and the pub next door served great food.
We’ll definitely be back!

Me gustó: Me and my partner have just come back from a 3night stay, from the moment we arrived we was greeted and informed of all essential information we needed by Wayne the warden - then throughout our stay Wayne was always seen doing his rounds talking to all the guests and generally making sure everyone was okay.
The fishing lake was beautiful had a little dabble and managed to catch a fair few with the help of Wayne and sue.
Great place we carnt wait to come back.

Me gustó: The warden was very helpful, nothing was a problem. The pitches were a good size and the site was nice and quiet. There is a pub next door and plenty of places to walk. Also a small fishing lake too.

To learn more about Bosworth and its battle, you could steam over there in suitably historic style, taking a vintage train ride from Shackerstone (10 minutes’ drive), or if you prefer 21st-century transport, the Battlefield Heritage Centre is 20 minutes away. For the thrills of the battlefield without the other bits, Drayton Manor Theme Park has all manner of white-knuckle adventure rides, or you could hit the icy slopes of the year-round indoor Tamworth Snowdrome (both half an hour away). Warm up afterwards with a trip round the spicy eateries of Birmingham’s Balti Triangle, topped off by sticky sweet chocolate factory tours at Cadbury World and experimental missions at the city’s Thinktank Science Museum (40 minutes). How wild do you like your wildlife? Twyford Zoo (10 minutes) has tarantulas and snow leopards; there’s a riot of feathered colours flapping about at Tropical Birdland (20 minutes), and wooded walks with those cute South American camelids at National Forest Llama Treks are within half an hour. It’s a 15-minute trip to see the early stages of the New National Forest, and there’s bike hire at the Youth Hostel if you want to see the saplings from the saddle. More mature woodland, plus walks, horse riding and birdwatching can be sampled at Sence Valley Forest Park, 10 minutes’ drive away, or you can beetle over to Bradgate Park (half an hour) on Leicester’s outskirts, for gentle hills and Tudor history, deer herds and skylarks.
