Slate House Farm

Me gustó We had a fantastic three-night stay on the farm with our 7-year-old son. We were made to feel so welcome by Toni and Ricky.

Our little boy loved helping with the animals, pumpkin picking, playing on the trampoline and kicking his ball around the football field. He was even given a Halloween gift bag full of lovely treats and gifts! There were so many thoughtful little touches that made his visit extra special.

The pod (number 4) was extremely clean and warmed up quickly with the heater in the evening. The fire pit was perfect for toasting marshmallows and making s’mores each night, and helped keep us warm too!

The farm shop had hot drinks, cakes, ice cream, milkshakes and lots more.

The location was perfect for Gullivers Kingdom, Heights of Abraham and Matlock Illuminations.

One thing to remember… it is a working farm! Wrap up warm and bring your wellies. There’s long grass, mud, lumps and bumps, and you’ll probably get a little bit dirty — but that’s exactly what made the experience feel so authentic.

Me gustó the farm animals kids loved it Halloween themed. we did have water temperature problem in shower. The maintenance guy fixed it the guy gave kids 2 Halloween bags to say sorry really nice of the. woukd go back again

No me gustó Where to start?

Whilst travelling along the road to the farm, there is no signage on the main road and narrow entrance off a fast busy road and instantly met with drep pot holds. Travelling along the lane to the farm there is nothing but pot holes everywhere. I dread to think what it would be like in a normal car as we are lucky we have a four wheel drive.

Secondly the photos showing the pods are from 2018, showing well manicured lawns and gravel path from the car park to the pods. After paying for the pads before seeing them we then walked to out pod to find that there is not gravel paths left just churned up mud and overgrown grass and mole hills everywhere making unsure footing. My husband twisted his ankle trying to carry our bags top the pod which were wheeled but unable to wheel it due to the mud.

Pod1 is run down, smaller than stated so no room to store any bags and clothes. Shower totally non functioning and would not ignite the boiler for hot water. So had endure a cold shower. The shower head would not stay in place kept slipping down.

The Gas boiler was from 2018 there was no safety certificate anywhere to show it had been serviced and it has a pilot light so for safety sake we slept with the window open. My husband checked online regarding the boiler as we felt it unsafe and it was discontinued 2018/2019 because of the high nox levels, so the manufacturer discontinued it.

2 drinking glasses in pod, one which had a chip and crack for a pod that sleeps 4.

Went to fill the dogs bowl with water, noticed the colour and run some into a glass and it resembled orange squash. The water then went off for nearly 4 hours, when it came back on, it was still discoloured and spitting out rust from the taps. One the last day my husband went to take a wash and the smell from the water was overpowering. We had to use bottled water for everything including washing. I would not even fill my dogs water with what came out of the taps.

The external roof of the cabin was half shingles, the side facing where you arrive. The opposite side was felt so must have had a leak or damage in the past. The whole pod was run down. The only new part of was the decking. Never complained when we were there as we left early and came back late to minimise our time in the cabin. Pods were stated to be 17ft x 13ft actual size 13ft x 10ft.

There was also a farm shop on site which was not open the entire time we were there. Also on the write up it shows that there is a sauna on site have no idea where that was supposed to be.

We could have lived with pod being on the small side and other fairly worn but once the water trouble started and the non functioning shower this is what made it unbearable, as I booked the pod because it had a private shower!

Me gustó We had a lovely little holiday here. There's stunning views and it's quiet but there's plenty to do and see on the farm (and in surrounding areas). The owners are lovely and told us we could walk around to meet all the animals. The sheep all ran up to us and it was adorable! The pod is cozy. I was surprised at how many appliances were provided in the kitchen (small obviously but perfect for glamping). There was also a heater, blankets, camp fire, BBQ and a TV with dvd player! And on arrival there were logs, fire starters, kindling and a lighter all in a box outside the pod! Everything you need for a cosy getaway. Loved it so much!

No me gustó Take your own water to drink and wash in.

I was told apparently it`s a very old farm so the shower system doesn't work properly because it`s an old farm, so old system.

Take welly boots because grass in field where pods are wasn't cut, and very long.

No large entrance "camp signage" on entrance of camp site, so very easy to miss.

Take ear plugs because the fridge sounds like a pneumatic drill going off through the night.

we would like to say we are very disappointed with this review. This did not reflect what you were saying to us during your visit and morning coffee in the farm shop we asked you how you slept and your reply was ( amazing I did not want to get up Thankyou )

Firstly you said your satellite navigation wasn't picking up our postcode we have never had this issue before? so you called us and we came out and picked you up from your location given on the phone and brought you back to the farm. Which at the time you said you were grateful and could not thank me enough.

Secondly we opened our farm shop for you that evening so you had something to eat that night as it was so late.

The messages you sent to us are not a reflection of the score you gave us and can only feel you wrote this in anger because I had to cancel my reiki session with you. Our reviews are a true reflection of our pods and customer service. we pride ourselves on making sure our guests have a wonderful stay and want to return as a lot do and become friends of the farm.

The grass as we all know due to the drought this year as been yellow we made the decision to allow it grow a little longer to achieve a healthy lawn again. This is part of our lawn care treatment around the farm.

Since your stay we have had guests in the same pod with no issues. we have checked the fridge and it's silent as we expected as they was all purchased new in June 2026.

Me gustó The tranquility! The naturalness of everything. It had everything needed without being too much. It was the perfect relaxing retreat & we will definitely be back :)

Me gustó It was really great, nice and peaceful even though it's a farm and there are animals like sheep, goats and pigs. Which weirdly enough didn't seem to disturb you. The pods are great and the farm is pretty central to quite alot of the different places you can visit.
