For peaceful times in the Peak District National Park take a look at Longfield Farm, a small and friendly site surrounded by Derbyshire countryside. A 10-minute drive from the spa town of Buxton and the medieval town of Bakewell, the pitches here are well situated for all sorts of alfresco activities. In the surrounding Peak District, guests can pull on their walking boots and get stuck into several good hikes along the likes of the Tissington Trail and the Monsal Trail, each within a 25-minute drive. Dogs should find plenty to sniff out on countryside walks too, and cyclists can make use of the area's many dirt paths. For other outdoor activities to get the heart racing, there's kayaking, windsurfing and fly fishing 30 minutes away at Carsington Water, including taster sessions for first-timers. After all this, put your feet up at one of the local country pubs. Handily, there are several within a five-minute drive, including one with a large playground to let the kids blow off some steam while you nurse a well-deserved pint. This is a simple site with basic facilities only, but you’ll have access to water points, three toilets and a shower. If you don’t fancy a bite to eat from one of the local pubs, you're welcome to light up your own barbecue instead. Both Buxton and Bakewell have a good selection of supermarkets, or you can head to one of several local farm shops for meat and extras to put on the grill.

Me gustó Basic amenities but everything needed for a short break.

No me gustó Unfortunately on both evenings new guests were permitted to arrive after 9:30pm, at a time when the rest of the campsite was settling down for the night. On the first night, the arriving guests spent well over an hour setting up a trailer tent including using a loud drill well past 10pm. The same situation was then repeated on the second night when further late arrivals were allowed onto the site. Again, they were setting up a trailer tent late in the evening accompanied by more children and considerable noise which was particularly disruptive when other campers were trying to settle and sleep. I appreciate that the behaviour of these guests is not necessarily a reflection on the campsite itself however I do feel that the situation could have been avoided with more consideration for the other guests, particularly when it doesn’t seem like a one-off occurrence.

Me gustó The area is great for walks and having farm land is gives a sense of fresh air and the Peak district direct routes to Monyash village and Buxton town

No me gustó Cockrels and chickens crowing all night and had no sleep,, also another aroma that wouldnt go away from the waste bins over flowing
Would stay again but at the top of the site so that the sounds cant be heard from 4am

Del administrador: Thank you for your feedback.

Unfortunately, if you’re giving the site 3/10 because you could hear the chickens and cockerels, and because of an overflowing waste bin, it’s quite clear that Longfield Campsite simply isn’t the right site for you.

The chickens and cockerels are part of the rural surroundings and, as with any countryside site, we cannot guarantee complete silence—particularly from animals that don’t exactly work to a timetable!

As for the bins, we have already acknowledged that this is something we are looking at improving. Unfortunately, some campers use the bins for far more than normal household waste, including broken equipment and large boxes, which quickly fills them up.

You say you would stay again but would choose the top of the site to avoid the noise. Given your 3/10 rating, I’d suggest it’s probably best that you don’t bother booking again and choose a campsite more suited to what you’re looking for.

We’re a small, rural campsite—not a luxury, silent retreat—and we make no apologies for the countryside atmosphere that comes with it

Me gustó The quiet campsite with great connections via car to Buxton and Bakewell. Toilet and shower cleaned once a day by really lovely lady.

No me gustó Not really disliked but more awareness for other campers - there are 3 toilet cubicles and one has a shower in it. The shower is warm but basic. We noticed other campers complaining but if you're used to camping - you won't mind it at all.

Del administrador: Thank you for your feedback.

We are sorry that the overflowing bins affected your stay. We are currently looking into providing larger bins and ways of managing campers’ waste more effectively. Unfortunately, the bins are regularly used for much more than normal household camping waste, with broken equipment, boxes and other bulky items being left in them. This quickly fills the available space and is something we are increasingly having to deal with. Unfortunately, a lack of consideration from some campers makes this particularly difficult to manage.

Regarding the cats, I completely agree that cats climbing into tents and begging while food is being prepared is unacceptable. Unfortunately, they are not our cats, and we actively discourage campers from engaging with or feeding them. However, some campers enjoy having the cats around and actively encourage them, which makes it extremely difficult to keep them away from the camping areas. We will continue to discourage this behaviour where we can.

Regarding the fire at the neighbouring farm, this was a controlled fire and was attended by the fire brigade. Unfortunately, we cannot be held responsible for activities taking place on neighbouring land. While we appreciate that smoke and ash blowing across your camping equipment was unpleasant, the fire was outside our control and was dealt with by the appropriate authorities.

We do take genuine feedback seriously and are continually looking at ways to improve the site. However, there are certain things outside our control, and we also rely on campers showing a reasonable level of respect and consideration for the site and other guests

Me gustó A great location, very central to so many beautiful spots at a great price, you really can't argue! The facilities are basic which the cost reflects, but lovely flat field, electric hook ups and beautiful surroundings, really pleased to have found this place and everything we needed.

Me gustó The tap next to the hook up for each pitch, the farm cats were friendly and came for cuddles, large grass pitch, located between bakewell and Burton and near loads of brilliant days out.

No me gustó No hot water to wash up
Cockerells were no stop all day and night
Bins overflowing and not emptied

Del administrador: Thank you for your feedback.

There is an outside washing-up sink with running cold water, and there is also hot water available inside the toilet block. Guests simply need to fill a bowl with hot water inside and take it outside to use at the washing-up sink.

As for the cockerels, we are a rural campsite and they are unfortunately part and parcel of the countryside. They don’t operate to campsite hours and can be heard throughout the day and night.

Regarding the bins, we appreciate that overflowing bins are unpleasant and we are looking at ways to manage the waste more effectively. Unfortunately, some campers use the bins for large amounts of rubbish, including boxes and broken equipment, which means they fill much quicker than they should.

We’re a small, basic rural campsite offering affordable pitches, and we’re sorry the experience didn’t meet your expectations.

The entrance to the site is on Flagg Lane (not The Jarnett). There is a signpost opposite the turning for Long Field Farm and Lane End Farm Trust. Look out for the fixed sheep pens at the top of the track, then follow the lane down to the site entrance on the right and look for your numbered pitch. If you type Lane End Farm Trust into your sat nav that should take you to the campsite.

Lugares de interés

If your walking boots are a camping essential, take them over to the Tissington Trail for a fine 13-mile route through the Derbyshire countryside. The route commences a 25-minute drive away in Ashbourne. For a shorter trail, the Monsal Trail is 15 minutes away – it's easier on the feet with a less demanding 8.5-mile route. For adrenaline seekers, Carsington Water is half an hour’s drive away. Here, you can hire kayaking kit or try out windsurfing if you're feeling extra ambitious. If watersports aren't your strong suit, their taster sessions will help to ease you in to the relevant techniques. For other activities that will raise your heart rate, there’s an outdoor pool in Hathersage 25 minutes away and several indoor pools within a 25-minute drive. Further afield, take a whirl on the rollercoasters at Alton Towers, a 40-minute drive away and with plenty to fill a full day. At Matlock Farm Park (30 minutes), a collection of cute animals should keep kids entertained; they can give horse riding a go too or gently feed the lambs if they're seeking some quieter time.
